Malealea is situated in a remote part of Western Lesotho, breathtaking in its beauty and a chance to experience traditional Basotho life. Perfect for a 2 or 3 night stay from Johannesburg en-route to Cape Town, East London or Port Elizabeth. Lesotho is a world without fences. Breathtaking scenery abounds and every season has unique attractions. Malealea is situated in a remote part of Western Lesotho that is breathtaking in its beauty. This is a chance to experience traditional Basotho life. The owners, Jones family, run Malealea Lodge. They are credited with more local knowledge than anyone. Various Basotho children’s’ choirs and a local Basotho music band using their local homemade instruments entertain the guests in the evenings around a campfire.

Outings range from 1 hour to 6 days or longer tailor-made to your requirements. The treks are usually about 7 hours each day. No riding experience is necessary. The huts and horses are hired from the Basotho people in remote areas. The huts are very basic and are equipped with a gas cooker, cooking and eating utensils, mattresses on the floor. On trek you experience "The Real Africa". The trails traverse spectacular mountain passes and some of Lesotho's highest waterfalls exploring Bushman paintings and experiencing "Basotho culture". Basotho Guides and a packhorse accompany the treks. Treks and trails are tailor made to suit your requirements. All is flexible and can be arranged at a moments notice. Local Museum and School Visit. Village Walks and Garden Project. Sangoma - Traditional Healer appointment. Local Children Choir and Band.

Thank you to the malealea lodge family, we had a splendid time. Everybody went out of their way to make us feel at home. The activities were great. I would like to especially thank the following people Teboho Lenyora, Tleki and Micky your service is indeed commendable.

Wonderful stay! Very easy to organize activities last minute. I have been to other cultural centers that feel quite forced but Malealea continues to have an authentic feel and does a great job with the local community.

What an experience. Love the pony rides, village tour, and hospitality of all the people in and around the village. The views are awesome and we learned a lot about the people of Lesotho. Will be back in 2011.

Our stay at Malealea was wonderful! We couldn't have asked for a better place to spend Easter weekend. We did the overnight pony trek and although it lived up to its name 'rough and tough', it was a great experience! Advice to future pony trekkers: wear sunscreen and be prepared to be sore in places on your body you didnt know existed! Thank you to the owners for making a home away from home in such a beautiful location.
