Description
Machaka Game Reserve and Lodge was officially opened in July 2006 by the people of the Botlokwa Tribe and their joint venture partners.
The whole project was financed by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism so as to create employment for the local tribe as well as sustainability for the future of the project and its people.
The game reserve’s name “Machaka” comes from the owner of the property who is also the Chief of the local tribe, namely Kgosi KD Machaka. The Kgosi is an active participant in the running of the facility.
The basic management of the whole project comes from a family with a long history in the accommodation and tourism industry and will handle all the needs of the guests including bookings, meals, function co-ordinating and activities.
The 1100 hectare game reserve is nestled in the beautiful rolling Matoks “koppies” 50km North of Polokwane on the N1 highway. Each of the ten self catering chalets are sparsely situated to provide the guests with total tranquillity and privacy with breathtaking views of the undisturbed bushveld.
Each chalet is equipped with a fridge, stove, a TV and all the amenities for four guests. The bathrooms have both a shower and a bath and all the bath towels etc are supplied.
The lodge caters for tourist and family holidays, travellers and small functions and conferences and does dinners and breakfast for group bookings and business travellers. The lodge is currently finalising their plans to build a further ten luxury tented chalets as well as a new restaurant and bar as well as a bigger conference centre.
The game reserve has various species of mammals and reptiles and a huge variety of bushveld birds. The farm is also introducing new species of game including the white rhino. Various game drives and walks are available to the guests as well as a fairly tame 4x4 route. Rock climbing, quad rides and horse riding will be introduced shortly.
Machaka Game reserve in its short existence has grown into one of the most unique accommodation establishments in the Northern part of Limpopo and offers the guest a whole new dimension of total relaxation with the highest level of service and professionalism.
