Description

Kleinfontein is ideally located for exploring the Winelands and offers personalised wine tours, mountain walks, horse riding, bird watching, fishing, golf, cultural tours, scenic drives and more.

Kleinfontein's thatched farmhouse was built around 1830 by the descendants of the French Huguenots and was extended at the turn of the century.  The original Cape Dutch character has now been painstakingly restored with poplar beams and ceiling reeds harvested on the farm.

All visitors are welcomed as personal guests and drawn generously into the relaxed life at Kleinfontein, where all meals are taken together, table conversation continues till late and guests connect with the people and country they have come to see. Breakfast and dinner are served on the verandah overlooking the mountains, meadows and vineyards, weather permitting, and are one of the high points of a stay at Kleinfontein. Haute cuisine farmhouse meals are prepared using seasonal ingredients including organic vegetables, milk, cream and eggs all fresh from the farm and accompanied by Kleinfontein’s own top quality wines.

Kleinfontein is a working farm cultivating vines, guavas and olives and has an organic vegetable garden irrigated by water from the crystal clear spring, which gives the farm its name "Small Spring". The indigenous bird friendly garden was opened recently for the Wellington Garden Festival and overseas visitors.

You may wish to relax by the sparkling salt-water swimming pool, drinking in the champagne air and watching the bird life. Some 60 species have been identified on the farm. Alternatively you may wish to take a picnic into the nearby mountains where you can walk and then relax and cool off on a warm day in one of the crystal clear mountain pools.  Kleinfontein is well placed for you to indulge in the scenic splendour, the wine and gourmet delights to be found on the wine routes of Wellington, Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch with their wealth of historic buildings, museums, art galleries and quality crafts.
