We had a wonderful stay at the hotel.

The interior of the reception and diningroom is beautiful. Rooms are very spacious. Food is good. Spa is excellent. Will stay in the hotel any time again.

Our stay was nice

Our stay was nice as we spent our last 3 days of 23 days of holidays there. However we should state that staff was not always very friendly at the reception desk. They should make you feel more welcome when you arrive. Then the cleaning lady did not shut the door properly so she left our door constantly open and unlocked. I should have mentioned this, but I failed to do so. Room we had with a bath is very spacious and very comfortable with lots of tv-nets, hairdryer, lots of convenie ... more

Description

Welcome to paradise. As you look over the grassy plains, watching the zebra graze blissfully on the grass, with the picturesque setting of the Paul Kruger farm in the background, ones mind wanders back to the days of the past.

Suddenly we are reminded how far we have come as a nation and how rich and diverse our heritage has become. The 4-star Kedar Country Hotel, Conference Centre & Spa is a cultural gem tucked away in the scenic mountains just outside of Rustenburg.

Some 20 years ago, Recreation Africa purchased a portion of Boekenhoutfontein, the historic farm of President Paul Kruger.

Over the years, adjoining land has been acquired, culminating in the consolidation of an area of some 700 acres, which has been game fenced and populated with a wide variety of game, including eland, blesbok, impala, bushbok, nyala, kudu, zebra, blue wildebeest and giraffe.

Invaluable environmental work has been done to remove alien vegetation and restore the wetlands which attract prolific birdlife.

Sister to the award-winning Misty Hills Country Hotel, Conference Centre & Spa, Kedar Spa in the Country is the latest edition to the Recreation Africa family. Kedar Country Hotel, Conference Centre & Spa boasts an African-themed 62 bedroomed hotel and 8 versatile modern conference venues, housing authentic Tswana antiques and historical artifacts dating back to the Iron Age.

Conference facilities include the Boekenhoutfontein room (150 cinema style), the Molotlegi room (30), the Kruger room (20) and Kukama 1 and 2 rooms. A traditional rondavel-shaped royal meeting house - a Kgotla - seats 40 and houses authentic Tswana antiques and historical artifacts dating back to the Iron Age. The entrance to the Kgotla is “guarded” by a Tswana warrior sculpture, created by renowned artist, Adam Madebe.

Offering a truly African experience, Kedar Spa in the Country uses materials and furnishings that are African in origin. Products and spa treatments are crafted out of indigenous African herbs and oils.

An African Spa has been built in an idyllic setting, jutting out over a natural wetland lake teaming with fish and birdlife. The Spa has been designed to allow guests to take full advantage of the breathtaking natural surroundings, with water being the central theme.

The reception area and guest shop are light and airy with uninterrupted views across a dam. Indulge in a treatment in one of the four exclusive treatment rooms, perched uniquely on the dam wall. Relax in the exquisite dining and lounge areas in between treatments or have a swim in the pool, overlooking the grasslands where wild game graze.

Indulge in a variety of heavenly treatments, ranging from anti-stress massages, aromatherapy and reflexology to advanced biological skin care and water treatments. The qualified therapists will make you feel pampered and rejuvenated!

Combine your time with an overnight stay at Kedar Country Hotel, Conference Centre & Spa with its discreet charm and personal service, combined with a flair of ethnic African décor, makes it a home-away-from-home.

Kedar offers guests various dining options. The Armoury Restaurant decorated with historic portraits and weaponry dating from the Anglo Boer War. The Boma with its unique entrance set amongst large indigenous trees with a central fire and a traditional outdoor cooking area. The 1872 Restaurant, the Victorian style house Pieter Kruger built for his family during the late 1800’s, offering Afrikaans and Cape Malay cuisine.

President Paul Kruger’s farm, Boekenhoutfontein, and the historic buildings on the land were declared a National Monument in 1971. Kedar acquired the property, in partnership with the President Kruger Trust.

The land around the museum has been incorporated into Kedar’s game farm. The main Kruger House is a museum showcasing a wide range of Kruger memorabilia and other items of historical interest.

The Metswedi bar in the evenings allows guests to partake of sundowners while watching the sunset over the natural bush.

Other facilities include a large swimming pool, game drives and a curio shop. All this, just one and a half hour’s drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, and only 15 minutes from Sun City and the Pilanesberg Game Reserve - home of the “Big Five”.
