Kalahari Plains Camp

Kalahari Plains Camp is beautifully situated overlooking an immense pan and open plains. The main area comprises a lounge, dining area and bar under canvas canopy with ceiling fans. The camp is raised slightly off the ground to take in the view and features include an camp fire area as well as a swimming pool.

The tents have canvas walls and are raised off the ground. Due to being in the desert, the canvas and roofs have been specially insulated to keep out the majority of the heat during the day and the cold during the night.

Each family unit is set on one deck and features a main room, with a smaller room for the children. The bathroom forms a link between the two rooms and services both rooms. Each unit also features a downstairs shaded verandah and an upstairs roof-top veranda, affording fantastic views over the pan and plains, and guests are welcome to sleep on the deck above each unit to enjoy the night skies.

This part of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve offers year-round viewing of key desert-adapted wildlife. Summer is spectacular, with huge concentrations of plains game followed by predators such as lion and cheetah. This is a premium desert experience throughout the year, with prime game-viewing during the summer months.

General herbivore species easily seen include gemsbok, springbok, red hartebeest, grey duiker and steenbok. Other big game include the sensational black-maned Kalahari lion, as well as one of the highest concentrations of cheetah in Southern Africa, leopard, brown hyaena and even caracal. Small predators include meerkats, Cape fox, honey badger, black-backed jackal, and many mongoose species.
