  • The natural materials used for the construction of Kuangukuangu blend perfectly with the surrounding landscape. Combinations of vibrant earth tones and raw materials such as canvas, wood, stones, logs and sand in an essential wilderness mix to keep a sense of the old safaris, transcending the ephemeral nature of modern decor fashions to harmonise with the natural world.

KuanguKuangu luxury cabin is designed for a maximum of 2 people, this means no other tourists in sight and peace and solitude is guaranteed!
  • Situated in the peaceful solitude of an idyllic valley, in the heart of the desert, Kuangukuangu is the ideal place for travellers who seek tranquillity and intimacy. Nestled in a dune, KuanguKuangu makes it possible for its occupants to live in harmony with nature, at the same time offering them comfort, luxury, adventure and relaxation.
  • Kuangukuangu has one main room, which opens out towards the valley, and is centered around a bed. You will be able to enjoy at leisure both sun up and sun down on the Barchan dunes.
Simple and uncluttered, the bedroom with a spectacular view is an oasis of quietness and inspiration.
  • The main characteristic of Kuangukuangu is the diversity of the different desert landscapes in the region. The great expanses of sand and the rocky plains alternate with endless areas of savannah grass, majestic mountain ranges, and patches of vegetation which surround the stretches of bright red sand. The variety of the flora and the fauna is as fascinating as the nuances in the colours of the landscape, which change continually over the course of each day. These surroundings are unique, undergoing constant transformation, and cannot be captured by photographers, nor depicted in books. One can only experience it, on the spot, here at Kuangukuangu.

KuanguKuangu luxury cabin is designed for a maximum of 2 people, this means no other tourists in sight and peace and solitude is guaranteed!

  • This open-air part of KuanguKuangu offers a panoramic view of the mountains situated behind Kuangukuangu during daytime… or of the starry heaven as soon as night has fallen (the Namib desert is reputedly the best place in Southern Africa to observe the stars). The starry sky in southerly direction will thus be visible to the naked eye, unobstructed, from the rock around which Kuangukuangu is built. Kuangukuangu comes from "Omukuangukuangu", a word used by the Ovambo people, meaning the milky way.
  • Practical information:

- drinkable running water
- hot water available thanks to the « donkey » system used by Namibian farmers (water is heated by wood fire)
- stove as well as all the necessary cooking equipment in the kitchen, and a « braai » (barbecue) outside.

Electricity (220V) is generated by solar panels. Also KuanguKuangu is covered by the Namibian mobile telephone network.

You can reach Kuangukuangu in a normal car, it is not necessary to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
  • Take the B1 until Rehoboth (the last petrol station before you reach KuanguKuangu is at Rehoboth). About 5 km after Rehoboth, turn right onto the C24 until you reach Nauchas.
Turn right onto the D1275, which will take you over the Spreetshoogte pass. About 20 km further on, you will see, on your left, a fence saying “Barchan Dunes”: go through the fence and take this road to the farm of Willem and Hannetjie (3km), who will welcome you and will show you where KuanguKuangu is located.

The Meals: You can, if you desire, take your meals at the farm situated at five minutes walking distance from Kuangukuangu (you must check in advance that your hosts will be able to accommodate you). The food and the warm welcome they offer are exceptional. You will be treated to such delicacies as excellent oryx steak, ginger spiced pumpkin soup, or delicious milk-tart (a Southern African specialty).

The Game Drive: You can also ask us to accompany you on a game-drive (pre-booking required). The farm has a rich fauna and flora. You will have the opportunity to see oryxs, warthogs, ostriches, horses, wild squirrels, des suricates and jackals, just to mention a few. Also possible (pre-booking required): round trip to Sossusvlei, safaris to nearby attractions (Spreetshoogte, Naukluft, Kuiseb Canyon) Hikes and Treks: Kuangukuangu is surrounded by a mountain range, a veritable natural geological marvel (gigantic rocks shaped by the climatic changes), which you can explore on foot (the dry river bed passes just behind). These rocky formations will reveal stunning and eccentric surprises to the attentive observer.

Rates: Accommodation: R1200 per night per Cabin.

Short stay but the accommodation is perfect for nature lovers. Landlord and landlady absolutely perfect. Dinner was really great. Anytime again.

The best room with a view ever! Mountains on 3 sides and no houses or people within sight. Wish we could have stayed for more days in this well-designed, rustic, yet luxurious cabin. Not cheap, but every cent worth. Enjoyed the springbok meat in our braai pack.
