Jakkalsdans Guest Farm

The house is not the charming farmhouse we were hoping for. Surroundings are pretty but the house is not. A long bad dirt road from Sutherland extended each day by an hour. More hot water is necessary for eight people - could not have many baths in the evening, and in the morning the pipes were frozen. Good accommodation for eight to 10 people, and wonderful warm, comfortable beds with electric blankets were appreciated.

We apologise for your inconvenience but our webpage does state that we are located 56 km from Sutherland along a dirt road. As for the hot water for bathing, eight baths per night is a feat for any geyser and normally recommend that showers be had. Sutherland is well known for its icy cold winters and this is also the attraction of the area – this leads to the pipes freezing in the whole area and cannot be controlled. Mother Nature has a will of her own.

En dan die bonus: Karoo magic op sy beste. Stilte, wye oop ruimtes, in die verte 'n skaap wat blêr, bloekombome op die werf, 'n silwerskoon plaasdam, windpomp, sterrenagte. Onverbeterlik. Jakkalsdans meets all expectations: bedding, mattresses, furniture, bathroom, you name it. Everything of excellent quality, clean and well looked after. Then the bonus: that unique Karoo magic at its best. Stillness, wide open spaces, a sheep bleating in the distance, eucalyptus trees in the yard, a clean farm dam, a windmill, and beautiful starry nights. Unbeatable.

We had the most wonderful stay. Seeing the stars was the most amazing experience. Our stay in a real farm house in the middle of nowhere was a treat. We watched spring hares and dassies and listened to the jackels. We even had fish in the river in the middle of all this dryness. The most wonderfully hot bread delivered with the biggest smile from Lien. Jakkelsdans is a very special place we did not want to leave. Thank you.

An ideal breakaway from the city, would return with my grandchildren next time. Perfect setting for someone who loves nature, stars and tranquility. The house is big, well equipped and ideal for a big family or several friends who want to share some time.
