Description
Granite Mountains and hillsides covered with indigenous woodland provide the truly exquisite setting of Inn on Rupurara. Vistas of blue, gold and green African Highveld stretch before the eyes at every turn; once guests arrive there is hardly any need to go any further because this is the scenic jewel of Nyanga.
Inn on Rupurara was built in Cape country style with extensive use of local stone and wood. In the main building the dining room, two lounges and wine bar have hardwood furnishings and attractive fabrics which complement the colours outside. On either side of the main building, two wings of lodges are hidden in the hillside. One wing of six lodges overlooks a small dam on the Rupurara River, while the other twelve look over the valley to Rupurara Mountain. The Inn is built on a private estate stocked with a variety of plains game and also offering great birding and safari-style drives with a trained guide can be especially rewarding. Other activities on the estate include trout fishing in the pristine waters of the Inyangombe River, walks and picnics, rock climbing and visits to ancient rock art.
Within easy reach of the Inn are two golf courses and a casino as well as all the other attractions and amenities of the Nyanga area, including waterfalls, dams and archaeological sites. Eighteen spacious rooms are all en-suite, tastefully decorated in early Cape style in keeping with the country setting, and opening onto a generous covered verandah. Room heaters are provided for those chilly mountain evenings.
The main guest area has two lounges, a main lounge and a cosy attic lounge, both with fireplaces. In the attic lounge there is a mini library and a number of board games including novel glass chess set. Trevor’s wine bar offers a wide selection of local and imported wines and liqueurs. The dining room can seat a maximum of 40 people in one sitting and breakfast is served on a sun-filled veranda. Dinner is a four course meal with a selection of two main courses and two desserts followed by tea or coffee in the lounge.
As the hotel is built on a mountain slope, there are numerous stairs and very little even ground which does make moving from one area to another difficult for the infirm or elderly.
