House Higgo

The Higgo’s came to South Africa from Penzance in Cornwall in 1850. They landed in Cape Town, where they stayed in the area now known as Higgovale, as well as on the land on which the Groote Schuur Hospital is built.

Reginald Douglas Higgo, a World War 2 veteran who resided in House Higgo, was born in 1919 on Robben Island in Cape Town. Robben Island was where Reginald’s father was the resident engineer for the light house. In those days, Robben Island was not yet a prison and the leper colony had already moved off the island.

All the rooms and suites in House Higgo have been named after a village or town in Cornwall that played a significant role in the Higgo history. Arriving at this magnificent home away from home, you will find elegant and discreet service to satisfy the most discerning of tastes.
