A bit about this place

Happy's River Lodge is an exclusive Guesthouse situated in Heidelberg - a perfectly situated stopover on the N2 halfway between Cape Town and Knysna - where you can experience true country hospitality. We are situated on the Duivenhoks River overlooking the golf course and mountains - very peaceful surroundings with magnificent views. We have 4 comfortable en-suite bedrooms, perfect for honeymooners. Spacious lounge with cosy fireplace for winter evenings. Receive a complimentary drink on arrival. We have a patio and wooden deck where you can view the river and relax and enjoy sundowners in pleasant surroundings. Uncle Happy built the house in 1984 and this is where he and his wife lived for 18 years. Uncle Harry passed away in 2002 and we bought the house from him and renovated it into the guesthouse in operation today. What to do and see: * Groot Vadersbosch nature reserve - Hiking in indegenous forest, bird watching. * Scenic, yet challenging mountain bike trails ideal as preparation for races or to enjoy with the family. * Ostrich farmtours at Skeiding. Join the Uys family and experience the day to day running of a working farm. * Practise your swing on our prestine 9 - hole golf course. * Join the locals on an historical walk through town. * Relax and experience the best of SA's talent at Dassjesdrift Theatre, an unique combination of art, music and cuisine. * Boat charter, horse riding and 4x4 trips can be arranged. * Arst and Crafts. Day trips from Happy's River Lodge: 1. Witsand (35km) Long unspoilt white beaches, fishing and whalewatching in "The" Whale Nursery of SA. Return to Heidelberg via Malgas and take a ride on the last hand operated ferry in the world. 2. Suurbraak - Swellendam Tucked away at the foot of the Langeberg mountains you find the mission town of Suurbraak. Walk back in time and experience the local hospitality. Take the time to drive on to Swellendam the 3third oldest town in SA and visit numerous historical tourist attractions. 3. Barrydale - Montague Small town living at its best. Visit numerous wine farms and get a taste of the good life. 4. Barrydale- Ladismith- Riversdale Take the R62 from Barrydale to Ladismith and then over the Gacia Pass to Riversdale and back to Heidelberg
