At Ganora we offer visitors a special South African experience. The history of Ganora spans 270 million years, from fossil beds of mammal-like reptiles to evidence of bushman paintings and etchings as well as Anglo-Boer War engravings. Additionally a tour of our wool shed offers a glimpse into farm life today.
The charming cottage is situated on the farm approximately 7 km from Nieu-Bethesda and the famous Owl House. The cottage is self-contained and guests can choose to self cater, have meals on the farm, or we can make reservations at a cosy Restaurant in Nieu-Bethesda. The Khoi-San cottage is ideal for people seeking an active and hospitable stay on a working sheep farm, or those wishing to relax and unwind in the peace and tranquility of Karoo simplicity.
We offer a range of activities including birdwatching, mountain biking, 4x4 trails, hiking and mountain climbing, and guided tours to Bushman paintings and artefacts, as well as fossil walks.

Great Outdoors: Hiking, biking, birding and so much more. Come and enjoy our 35 km or shorter mountain bike trails. And for those that enjoy walking, the Canyon hike or the guided medicinal plant walk is just the thing to do.
Historical & Cultural: We like to share our discoveries made at Ganora. As we say, give us one day and we give you 280 million years! We offer guided tours to a rock art site with bushman paintings, a private fossil and artifact museum, war engravings and a fossil walk.
Wedding Venues: A wedding with a difference! Each wedding held at Ganora has been completely different. We try to accommodate the bride's wishes as long as it is possible on the farm.
Working Holidays: Young people wanting to experience a Karoo farm and our lifestyle in South Africa is welcome to apply.

Wonderful getaway

The farm is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. We enjoyed the views and fresh air after a long day's drive. The double en-suite room was very comfortable. We would have liked to stay another night to experience some more of the activities available.

VERY remote and rustic, but that's part of the charm. Only a few km from the Owl House in Nieu Bethesda. We stayed there in June and it was a bit on the cold side in the lodge, so the electric blanket was helpful! Food was good, but some kitchen implements were missing. The farm has a variety of animals, including some cute meerkats, along with an impressive fossil collection. On the whole, an interesting and pleasant place.
