Galileo Cottage

In 1609, Galileo Galilei made a public demonstration of the first scientifically constructed telescope. Today, thousands of tourists come to the small town of Sutherland to visit the largest telescope in the Southern Hemisphere, called SALT.

Travelling on 110 km of tarred road from the N1 turn-off at Matjiesfontein will bring you to Galileo Cottage which will be the place you will want to stay. Whereas Galileo proclaimed that the earth moves around the sun, we at claim that with us the earth moves around your comfort.

We offer a self-catering cottage where all expectations are exceeded. World-class accommodation, unbelievable attention to detail and warm and generous hospitality not often found in today's world. We guarantee privacy with sunny living rooms, a private entrance and a garden with bird life.

Guests are encouraged to use the barbecue facilities and we will provide the wood for one barbecue. We supply reading materials, board games and a collection of DVDs. As part of the service, we offer to do the necessary bookings for our guests for visits to the Observatory, night stargazing and a restaurant if desired.
