Unique experience...
We stayed a both lodges : Billy's and River lodges. Both are very different and have their own character. Staff friendliness is a must, games drives are exciting, bush walks are an experience (we even had the experience to face a lion during one of them.... it is something...) Food was ok, but menus could be improved and diversified. We were a bit disappointed with the Christmas diner (chicken breasts and pap....).
Response from Lodge : New chef has arrived - working hard at upgrading menues

Great camp in a real wild surrounding
We stayed at the River lodge and we felt at home. The rondavels were furnished very stylishly and cosy. The only thing that was not perfect was the food, which was of good quality but rather basic - here I hope they will offer something more adequate to this nearly luxury camp - and we missed some hammocks which would fit perfectly in the surrounding.
The safaris were a great experience, however the reserve is not very big and after 4 tours you've seen the most of it. Yet it was the o ... more

Food was great
Overall I would classify it as average and acceptable. The food menu needs more variety. Food was cooked well and appetising. The river view is a slight misnomer and it is very restricted and will, I assume be almost completely obscured when the rains come and bush turns green.

Ezulwini Game Lodges are situated in the Greater Kruger National Park, Balule Nature Reserve. We offer two game drives per day, where you go deep into the heart of the African bush where our guide will track and show you African wildlife upclose.
Description
Ezulwini Game Lodges are situated in the centre of the Greater Kruger National Park, Balule Nature Reserve section, which is approximately 17 kilometres from Hoedspruit making it easily accessible from both Hoedspruit and Phalaborwa. It is approximately 5 hours drive from Johannesburg. We are situated in a very low risk malaria area and have never had a case of malaria at our lodges. Ezulwini, the Zulu word for 'Place of Paradise', where Africa remains unspoiled. The emphasis at our Lodges is on friendliness and informality. Our staff are well trained and professional to ensure your stay is even more memorable. Ezulwini prides itself on being able to offer an exceptional African setting, indigenous fauna and flora as well as unique character and charm, to provide you with an authentic, African experience. All lodge rooms have new silent climate control air conditioning and heating facilities, mini bars and elegant mosquito nets. Please note that check-in time is 14:00 and check-out time is 11:00. Please make prior arrangements should you require alternate times. The magnificent Olifants River, largest of all of the lowveld rivers flows through the northern area of Ezulwini, and it is here in the riverine forest, where this luxury lodge is located. Two of the largest trees in South Africa, a sycamore fig (Ficus Sycamorus) with a diameter in excess of five metres and a leadwood tree (Combretum Imberbe) in excess of two metre diameter, grow in our riverine forest. This region is home to Hippos, Crocodiles, Elephants and massive Riverine Trees and is an excellent venue for the avid bird watcher.
River Lodge has an exquisite entertainment area comprising a lounge, bar and swimming pool, all under a large thatched roof. Relax here in welcoming deep sofas and marvel at magnificent leadwood sculptures. The enormous wooden dining deck set in the riverine vegetation, which looks out over the Olifants River and an elevated thatched viewing deck overlooking the bush, add to the special ambiance of this lodge. Superb cuisine and skilled rangers will enhance your safari and leave you with an experience of Africa which you will remember forever. Luxury, thatched, twin bed chalets, with en-suite bathrooms, accommodating a maximum of 14 guests gives a charm that only a small camp can possess.
The rooms which were built in the 1940's have been beautifully restored and furnished with antiques from that period and have 220V, 50Hz electrical supply, potable drinking water, Insect-proof window screens, elegant mosquito nets, overhead fans, new, silent air-conditioners, tea and coffee making facility. River Lodge offers 6 standard rooms as well as the VIP Spelati Suite – sleeping 14 guests in total. The Spelati Suite has a spacious lounge, an outdoor bathroom and private deck, in addition to a king sized bed. Satellite T.V. is available in the lounge area.
