Elephant Rest is situated in peaceful surroundings of the indigenous Lawnwood forest near Knysna.
Offering a timber cottage with three bedrooms furnished with double and single beds as well as two bathrooms, one with shower and the other with a bath. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with a large fridge, oven and gas stove top. The lounge is open plan with a TV, a DVD player as well as a fireplace. The cottage also has a dining room. Guests can enjoy their morning coffee or enjoy spectacular sunsets on the spacious deck overlooking the dam and farmlands.
Guests can enjoy activities like hiking and cycling trails or visits to the historical Millwood Gold Mines and enchanting Jubilee Creek. Visit Mother Holly’s Tea Garden or the Dalene Matthee monument under the gentle giant Yellowwoods tree. The area is a real treat for bird watching and bird watchers should keep a look out for the Knysna Loerie and the Nerina Trogon.
Elephant Rest is perfect for a peaceful and tranquil getaway. We also have an on-hand aromatherapy masseuse that needs to be booked in advance.

Family: At Elephant Rest there are wonderful grass lawns and gardens for the children to enjoy, a dam with paddle skis and frogs, safe hiking and biking trails for all ages and T-shirt painting with Adela; great fun.
Great Outdoors: Bordering on the indigenous Lawnwood Forest, the area offers great opportunity for birdwatching, hiking, cycling and canoeing. We also have guided forest tours relating to the trees that can take wheelchairs if booked in advance.
Historical & Cultural: Follow Dalene Matthee's Circles in a Forest trail, visit old woodcutters graves and the site of the gold mining town from the late 1800's.
Honeymoon Romance: We have special honeymoon packages. The deck lends itself to wonderful sundowners for summertime, while the fireplace is cozy for winter snuggling.
Disabled Friendly: We are wheelchair friendly. There is wheelchair access onto the spacious deck and even on a guided forest tour, but one has to book in advance for the guided tour.
Pets Permitted: All pets are welcome and there is a variety of pet-friendly places and activities in the area that we will point out to you.
Outstanding Views: Our large covered deck looks out onto a vista of farmlands and indigenous forests.
Relaxation: Breathe in the peace and quiet, enjoy a gentle Reiki treatment or aroma-therapeutic massage in the comfort of your own cottage. Enjoy a sunrise walk in the forest and watch the fireflies light up the gardens at night.
