Doornberg Guest Farm

We really enjoyed our stay at Doornberg Guest Farm. The Guest House was very clean, the landscape wonderful and all our specific requirements were met with a smile. We will certainly make a plan to return.

My wife and I had the most wonderful short stay in this cottage which was truly delightful. Two nights was far too short and we will certainly make use of it again and will be recommending to others. Please thank Hannah on our behalf as we missed her when we left.

Dit was so lekker om daar te bly dat ons reeds beplan om terug te gaan vir nog 'n naweek. Dis rustig, mooi, en die mense gasvry. Die huis self is stunning uiteengesit, dit het gevoel asof ons tuis was. It was so nice to stay there that we already planned to go back for another weekend. It is peaceful and beautiful and the people are hospitable. It felt as if we were at home.

I felt very pleased with my shoot-in-the-dark choice for an overnight stay before I even met the owners or saw the house. The garden, upon entering, is a feast of green in the middle of an arid landscape that sorely needs the summer rain to quench its thirst. Peet's booming voice welcomed us before we physically saw him from behind my dusty, tired car and three sweaty children. His wife, Hanna, wasn't far behind and they embody the spirit of their working farm - ease, beauty, care, comfort. A nurturing place that feels less like a stopover, and more like an enticement to stay for a much longer time, next time. The farm is a curious mixture of koppie and bush, blended into the foreground of an old farm house that has everything one can ask for from a house that isn't one's own, including a very old piano. Comfortable without flashiness, spacious without making one feel lost, and warm without trying too hard. The rooms are clean and aesthetically pleasing, the self-catering kitchen and dining room are big enough to house a small army of family and friends. The swimming pool at the bottom of the steps kept the children busy for hours, and everywhere, trees and aloes and roses. This place made us very, very happy. We'll return, that's a promise.

After getting stuck in snow in Kokstad, we arrived very late at Doornberg, but what a welcome! We joined the other guests and laughed our stress of the day away. The accommodation was neat and we had everything we could wish for. Will definitely visit again!
