Description

De Oude Huize Yard is part of a 150 historical house in Harrismith. We offer exceptional accommodation and our restaurant is known for the wonderful meals. We are en-route between Johannesburg or OR Thambo International Airport and the Drakensberg. We are a member of the Grasslands Meander situated on the N3. The establishment is near to Sterkfontein dam and the Braamhoek pumped storage scheme.

Our rooms are all en-suite. On the premises we offer an antique collectibles shop, library and art gallery. We also have a live in wrought iron artist. Fresh cut flowers are grown for the purpose of flattering our guests. Our meals are prepared with home-grown produce. We support the local farmers and houses for fresh produce.

I'm going to the mountains for the weekend, in a couple of days i will be back, so i will just take my little brown suit and a blouse and a beret and carry my mac. Just in Case Charlotte Mitchell. This suite offers 38m2 of space and you will not be cramped in. That's all you will need. For winter-time the electric blanket will keep you cozy.

We were welcomed and made to feel at home from the very first, to the very last moment. The room was neat and the décor fitted superbly. The breakfast was top notch and the bottle of apricot jam was the cherry on top for a fantastic stay at De Oude Huize.

If you are looking for the best mix of traditional and eclectic in the Free State, this is it. From the minute we arrived, the welcome was genuine and warm. We enjoyed the superb views from the garden loungers of the mountains, and a fire in the bedroom after dinner. Such a treat. Rooms are amazing, full of artifacts, antiques and curiosities. Oil lamps were lit in the evening and we had a fabulous meal. Great service. Seemed a shame it was only a one-night stop.

After a long trip to the Free State, we stayed here en route to our home in Amanzimtoti. We felt welcome from the very first moment as the hosts were friendly and we were treated like royalty. We indulged ourselves in the historical trip in the old Chevy around Harrismith and were amazed how much interesting information there was to be shared about this "little" town!
