Clearwater Cabins is situated on a banana and macadamia nut farm which is a few steps from the boundary of the botanically significant Umtamvuna Nature Reserve. The area offers spectacular views across the Umtamvuna River Gorge into the grasslands of the Eastern Cape.

Clearwater offers an outdoor, rural experience allowing our guests to get in touch with nature. By providing our guests with simple facilities, they find more time to enjoy their surroundings. The encounter with this pristine environment is priceless in comparison. Not many holiday venues include a learning experience.

Guests will find braai places at each cabin, hot showers, flushing toilets and parking close to each cabin. The private verandahs are the ideal place to relax and look out onto the panoramic, uninterrupted view over the river gorge. Jan and Natalie Abbott are committed to making your stay comfortable and memorable with warm welcomes, extensive information on the area and ever improving service levels.

Visitors are welcome to explore the farm through the banana and macadamia plantations. Abundant bird life and small mammals such as duiker and reedbuck can be seen. Walking and mountain biking on marked trails are a popular activity from Clearwater’s premises. We conduct guided nature walks, drive-in day tours, guided MTB trails into Pondoland, Wild Coast and farm tours. A minimum group amount is required and conditions apply.

A viewing deck from Clearwater right to the edge of the river gorge is available to overnight guests and day visitors for them to enjoy spectacular views across the KwaZulu-Natal border into the Eastern Cape and down to the coastline. Visitors are assured of total peace and privacy while being within 10 minutes’ drive of shops and beaches, with the Wild Coast being 15 minutes away.
