We had an absolute blast - wonderful views, and friendly staff made our stay extra special.

We arrived in the afternoon and showed our booking. They did not expect us! but told us that somebody should have come last week but did not come! We were told that we could park 30 m from the house. Asked to come down for dinner: restaurant closed! Nowhere it is mentioned that you have to clime about 40 m up a path with the most dangerous and bad steps (1 of us was 80 years). There were no mosquito nets or fans, the bedlamp did not work, the toilet was running. Later they found 2 fans for us. The cubboards in the kitchen were dirty - did not want to use them. 5 p.m. they told us we could get take-away, either calamari or chicken. We asked for 4x 1/2 chicken - no they only had 1 chicken so 4 x 1/4 or 2 x 1/2 and calamaris. The 4 times chicken were half burned black! Asked if the restaurant was open the next day: Yes. 5 p.m. the chef came and told us that he was alone, the servant was off so no restaurant open. He made 3x take-away steak as the 4th person did not want to eat that food again. On the way to the resort we had a puncture - they promised to take the tyre to town in their vehicle, but 2 days later for departure it was still lying in their vehicle not fixed!!! We only found one good thing at the place: the view!

We really enjoyed our stay at the resort albeit short lived due to bad weather. What people who have left negative comments need to realize is that this is not 5 star accommodation, you`re staying in someone else`s holiday home which they have made available for rent. The Casa itself is very spacious, 4 bedrooms all with mosquito nets, big kitchen and dining area. The deck and braai area is absolutely awesome, the views are WOW! We had staff cleaning our house daily, nothing went missing and we were happy with the service. Our guide (Guiseppi) from the restaurant assisted us with the locals (prawns, crayfish etc), took me fishing (areas that most don't know about) assisted in cleaning etc - was very friendly and very helpful. As others have mentioned there is a little maintenance that is required but nothing that will sour your vacation. Excellent value for money!!

We arrived late so we did not really experience the resort. Very disappointed to have been left in the dark without electricity and no hot water to take a bath after a long trip from Vilanculos. Sad to have paid money for nothing. Could not even see what the house looked like. Just had to fight enormous roaches and a house that was not prepared for arriving guests. Half a candle (which we had to ask for) to share between 4 adults. Should get my money back.

Establishment's response

Dear Ms Fivaz

Due to unforeseen circumstances you could not stay in Casa Ericka and had to be moved to another house at the last minute. Had you been able to stay in Casa Ericka you would have had no roaches and would have had hot water. Casa Ericka now has a dual hot water system: an electric geyser (which was installed earlier in 2013) and a gas system which will provide hot water when the electricity is off. It is unfortunate that the electricity supply in the whole area was down on this night. This is out of the control of the resort. I apologise most sincerely.

The venue itself is magnificent. The views of the ocean and beach from the restaurant and the chalet are stunning. However, there was very limited hot water for showering in our chalet. And the dogs running around in the kitchen, in the bar and restaurant were disgusting. Surely there must be health codes or standards about keeping dogs out of the kitchen and restaurants. The atmosphere also felt like we were visiting a private house instead of a holiday resort. The owners were hogging the tv and remote for the whole weekend. If i can make a suggestion, put a tv in the house of the owners and leave the bar tv for the guests. Or better yet, change the name from resort to guest house.

Establishment's response

Guests are struggling to work the gas heating system for the shower. An electric geyser will be installed at end April 2013 to solve this problem.
