Description
Originally a private retreat of the Brink family, Chitwa Chitwa was transformed by Charl into an oasis of conservation and harmony. His dedicated holistic approach and wise land management are aimed at the handing of an uncontaminated African paradise to the future generations. In1991 Charl and Maria Brink created Chitwa Chitwa Private Game Lodge, today a jewel of South African hospitality and an emblem of the savannas most authentic and refined luxury. LOCATION: Chitwa Chitwa Private Game Lodge overlooks one of the largest lakes of the exclusive 63,000hectare Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, which forms part of the greater Kruger National Park. This area, in turn, is incorporated into the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park; a world-class ecotourism destination managed to optimise benefits for the sustainable economic development of local communities and biodiversity conservation. TRANSFERS: By air: the lodge is easily accessible by air directly from Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, with a flying time of approximately 1½ hours. Direct connecting flights are also available from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, which takes just over half an hour, and rom Eastgate Airport in Hoedspruit, with 25 minutes flying time. Charter Air Shuttle Services. By road: The road transfer from Johannesburg to Chitwa Chitwa takes approximately 5 hours. The lodge is situated in the northern area of the Sabi Sand and access is via the Gowrie Gate, near the Orpen Gate of the Kruger National Park. Chitwa Chitwa is a scenic three-hour drive from Nelspruit. Road transfers from the airport can by arranged by Eastgate Safaris ACCOMMODATION: Each of the eight individually decorated suites balances unpretentious style with complete comfort in natural colors and textures that replicate the serenity of the African bush indoors. The suites have a private plunge pool framed by a spacious timber deck that overlooks the lake. The mood is complemented by the passionate artworks of Maria Brink, who together with her husband, Charl, has created the perfect environment of refined luxury and relaxation. In response to a growing demand for greater privacy and exclusive hospitality, a separate accommodation option exists in the form of Chitwa House. This fabulous 470 square meter unit of two en-suite rooms and spacious common areas offers a uniquely personalised safari experience. Here, guests can enjoy a bush encounter tailored to their every whim with around the clock assistance from a dedicated house butler and game ranger.Chitwa Chitwa welcomes children of all ages who, under the supervision of expert guides, are guaranteed to a customised educational experience of the African bush. THE LODGE: One of Chitwa Chitwa’s most endearing features is its seamless integration into the surrounding African bush through its unobtrusive design. Guests can be assured of superlative game viewing from the main lounge and dining areas as they are rendered almost invisible to the various groups of wild animals that congregate at the nearby watering hole. Spacious viewing areas and a rim-flow swimming pool further enhance the feeling of being a part of the beautiful scenery. The library serves as an excellent resource to cross-reference encounters with the wildlife.Lunch is served next to the pool, while dinner is relished under the stars in the open-air boma,or in the elegant dining room.We complete the experience by offering authentic African massages by our trained therapists in the privacy of guests’ suites. Main ACTIVITIES: The most thrilling and eagerly anticipated part of any stay at Chitwa is undoubtedly the Chitwa Chitwa safari experience. Game drives are scheduled daily and take place at dawn and dusk in open 4-wheel drive safari vehicles. These are executed under the watchful eyes of a professional game ranger and tracker team, who serve as hosts, guides and educators throughout the experience. Guests are encouraged to join the daily walking safaris which take place mid-mornings.The optional visit to Dixie, a small Shangaan village situated close to the Gowrie Gate entrance of the Sabi Sand is a special opportunity to see and perhaps better understand the existing challenges of rural Africa but also live the beautiful energy which accompanies the hope for a better future. Chitwa Chitwa has cultivated a close partnership with the community and has been involved in various activities leading to the upliftment of its people. Professional field guide Chris Sebuye guides the tour and introduces the ways and realities of his people. The excursion takes about two hours from time of departure from the lodge.
