About Carmel Villa
Carmel Villa is a lovely guest house built in 1904 with a Victorian flair. It is situated in Calvinia and this attractive Karoo town lies in one of the largest wool-producing districts in South Africa - about halfway between Cape Town and Upington.
We ensure friendly, personal and professional service to all our guests. We offer three Bedrooms in the main house and two Self-catering Chalets. We have secure parking, braai facilities and a splash pool to keep guests entertained.
The Calvinia Museum, housed in an old art deco synagogue in Church Street, focuses on farming, transport and the lifestyle of the early inhabitants. The tourism office in the museum arranges guided walking tours of the town's special places of interest.
Two trails through the Akkerendam Nature Reserve offer opportunities to admire the lovely flowers found only in this region. The Hamtam Meat Festival is an event held in Calvinia every year in the last week of August.
