Description
Five star Calitzdorp Country House is the ideal stopover to the Garden Route, only four hours out of Cape Town and halfway to Port Elizabeth. Conveniently situated on scenic Route 62, the House is built and run in the style of a gentleman's country residence. It is positioned on a gentle slope with breathtaking views of the lush Nel's River valley, across the indigenous garden, swimming pool, vineyards and orchards to the majestic Swartberg Mountains beyond. Calitzdorp Country House is extravagantly furnished with original art, Victorian, French and Cape antiques and Persian rugs on gleaming wooden floors, all with five star service to match. All rooms are airconditioned and bathrooms have underfloor heating for cosy winter dalliances in huge baths big enough for a romantic twosome. In the summer, breakfasts are served alfresco in the courtyard with its magnificent views, while the optional four course dinner is a silver and crystal event, which includes complimentary sorbet, coffee and Port. The Premier Bedroom has a large private balcony which enjoys a superb view westward, across the indigenous garden, salt water swimming pool and fertile Nels River valley with its lush orchards and vineyards to the majestic Swartberg (Black Mountains) beyond.
This largest of the five bedrooms is furnished with a black leather Victorian chaise and features a hand-carved coffee table and side tables from Cameroon, West Africa. A collection of Italian architectural drawings and prints decorate the walls. Guests enjoying the firm luxury of the king size extra length bed may savour the view before getting up in the morning.
White tiles laid wall-to-wall in the bedroom set off the antique furniture and Persian rugs.
The huge en suite bathroom includes an outsize shower, twin washbasins on an Italian granite slab to match the cream tiled floor and a candle-lit outsize bath that makes honeymooners' hearts beat faster.
The separate toilet room also has a bidet.
