Description
The Bushman’s Hideout is an old Colonial-style luxury villa set in the natural African bush gardens of Zanzibar Villas’ Private Estate. The villa was built on solid ancient coral reef rock and is surrounded by a natural African paradise garden, full of wild flowers, game such as dik-dik antelope and bush pigs, and a variety of colourful bird and butterfly species. Many animals come to drink at the water hole or graze on the grass in front of the main verandah in the early mornings and evenings.
Originally built in 1996 for an Englishman, the décor is a mix of traditional Zanzibari and rustic African styles, all contributing to its unique atmosphere. The villa layout is on a single level, with solid wooden floors elevated above the bush and gardens, and a large front verandah and walkways leading around the building to more private terraces set outside each bedroom. The whole building, including the terraces and verandahs, is covered by a massive traditional makuti coconut-leaf roof.
The lounge, dining area and open-plan kitchen is a spacious area fully furnished with a large dining table seating up to six people, a bureau and chair, two large sofa beds, and a coffee table. Features include satellite TV with DVD and an iPod docking station, and wireless Internet is available throughout. The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances, cutlery and tableware for six people, while the storeroom is equipped with ample cupboard space and a large fridge-freezer with an ice cube maker. The verandah also features a second dining table for six people, a large sofa and two big hammocks for total relaxation, and a small private bar area is located in the garden.
At the communal centre of the Estate is a shared swimming pool and relaxation area, which guests are welcome to make use of. Features include fully equipped barbecue facilities with cooking equipment and plates, as well as a shower toilet and change room near the pool. The area also features a large dining table for up to 14 guests, an honesty bar, dart board, and table tennis. The pool is surrounded by white sands, with tables and chairs, hammocks and sun loungers, as well as plenty of shaded areas with large makuti umbrellas, providing a fantastic place to relax and socialise.
