About Thornhill Safari Lodge
Welcome to a truly African experience. Nestled within a private conservancy, 40 km from the Kruger National Park’s Orpen Gate, the Thornhill Safari Lodge blends harmoniously into its natural surroundings. The breathtaking view of the Drakensberg escarpment and the bordering Big 5 private game reserves, make the Thornhill Safari Lodge a unique getaway for combining relaxation with the excitement of the untamed bush.
Experience a Big 5 African safari on an open vehicle, through the neighbouring reserves, or get up close to the wildlife on guided and self-guided game walks. It is a rare opportunity to view the game up close in their natural habitat. The Thornhill Safari Lodge boasts a wide diversity of prolific game within the private conservancy.
Feel extravagant and be self-indulged in the lodge’s cosy accommodation. We offer nine authentically thatched chalets that are furnished in traditionally vibrant fabrics and beautiful local hardwood furniture. There are en-suite facilities, overhead fans and mosquito nets that are just a few of the little things that the lodge provides, to ensure guest comfort. Relaxing outside on the chalet’s wooden deck, guests can enjoy the scenic view of the lodge, the pool area or the unspoilt bushveld.
The passionate and enthusiastic staff at the Thornhill Safari Lodge ensure their guests are lavishly treated. They gladly cater for groups, individual guests, fly-in safaris and even the much loved honeymoon couple. Guests are introduced to typically traditional bushveld cuisine, but no-one is excluded, and those with special dietary requirements are happily catered for.
Organising meals couldn’t be easier as all accommodation includes dinner, bed and breakfast, as well as light lunches. Two game activities are also included per night for guests who would like to experience a bushveld adventure. Transport is also taken care of and transfers can be arranged from Eastgate and the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airports.

Rooms and the tours were good - Danielle and Goodman were very helpful. The food was not good - overcooked, dry and substandard. Directions to and ways to contact the Lodge need improvement. Phone number on the Website was incorrect. GPS coordinates are of no use without knowing which roads to take.
This lodge can be a good base to visit the Kruger park. The place is very quiet. You can book from here both full day and half day game drives. People are very friendly and helpful. Only minus is the bed sheets that were a little dirty.
