Description
The Family of P.J. De Wet built the first pioneer house on the little hill just above the springs in 1828. It was the first house on the Eastern Cape side of the Orange River. In 1849 the town was promulgated and set on the original farm of Buffelsvallei.
We have five individually decorated rooms. The Buffelsvallei room offers a queen-size bed and an en-suite bathroom; the Mooifontein is a family room with a double bed, single beds, an en-suite bathroom and a small lounge area; Oorlogsfontein has a double bed, a desk and an en-suite bathroom with a shower; Poortjie is a smaller room with twin beds and an en-suite bathroom; and Theefontein has two three-quarter beds, a small lounge area and an en-suite bathroom. All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, tea and coffee-making facilities and hairdryers.
There are a number of historical buildings in Aliwal North worth visiting, including the Kerkplein Museum and the Garden of Remembrance which includes a British blockhouse. The Buffelspruit Nature Reserve is close by and gives you access to a rich collection of antelope, buffalo and some striking grassland scenery.
