Experience a true eco-retreat where you can relax in one of the most tranquil settings nature has to offer. Bergrivier is situated in beautiful, peaceful surroundings at the beginning or end of the Baviaanskloof route.

We offer luxury accommodation in the rondavel, or a pioneer experience in an ox-wagon. Campers can pitch a tent at the beautiful campsite.

This is a paradise for birdwatchers. The beautiful Knysna Loerie is seen quite often. At night you will hear the Night Jar calling and so often do you see the Crown Eagle soaring over the hills. The call of the Fish Eagle is also occasionally heard.

Guests can enjoy a hike in the veld or kloof and, for the more adventurous, mountain biking can be arranged in the adjacent Longmore forest. This retreat is conveniently located in the scenic Eastern Cape, only 50 km west of Port Elizabeth, and close to the N2. The very popular beach resort, Jeffrey's Bay, is only 35 km away.

We had a lovely 1 night stay. People MUST know you preferably need a 4x4 to get to the campsite. Basics, but clean and lovely surroundings!

We arrived at Bergrivier two days into our holiday and in much need of a the paradise that awaited. Bergrivier is tranquil, beautiful and has a simple air about it. We had the entire campsite to ourselves and we found ourselves relxing within nature almost instantly. Japie made us completely at home within their camp site - the bathrooms were clean, we had free firewood and the fire-wood powered geyser was set up for us on arrival. I couldn't have asked for more welcoming patrons and I could feel their love for their farm and the place where their family has stayed for so many generations. I really consider this a special place where I will definitely return to.

What a lovely time spent at Bergrivier. The walks along the trails were lovely. The quietness of the surroundings. The stunning evening bonfire under the stars and moon indescribable. Will definitely return.

Our campsite is situated in a picturesque area of the farm. Only tents can be used as the road crosses the river at a shallow section which is not accessible by caravans. The old barn can be used for gatherings and group activities. When the whole campsite is booked by one group, a discounted rate is available. Our clean washroom facilies consist of four toilets, basins and showers. We have electricity in the washrooms. A "donkey" (outdoor water heater) can be fired up to provide hot water for the showers. There is a small kitchen with an electrical outlet, a small fridge and a basin for doing the dishes. There is a convenient braai facility. Firewood is available at R15 a bag.

Each cabin has a toilet and hand basin, as well as a basin for dishes. The beds are comfortable bamboo fold-up beds, attached to the side of the cabin. Basic eating and cooking utensils, as well as a small gas stove are available, however, you need to bring your own linen and towels. There is an outdoor shower with a "donkey" for hot water. The pioneer site also features a lapa or shelter where guests can share their stories around a campfire. Firewood is available at R15 a bag.
