The Lodge is in an idyllic setting with truly incredible views!

As of Jan 2010 - You definitely need a 4x4 to access the road to the lodge (and the public road into Inhambane was in terrible condition - if you're in a normal sedan you'll need to take it very slow). The lodge was in some ways unfinished - but hopefully the owners will attend to the teething problems asap, as this will be a truly special site once it complete. There is no beach within walking distance (you pretty much need to drive anywhere), but this does make the lodge nice and pr ... more

Wonderful setting.

Owner very friendly.helpful. Unit we stayed in not completely finished. Bit too far from the sea. Have to travel 5km along a very sandy road. Normal car would not get to this lodge. Very sandy road. Need high clearance car/bakkie with either 4*4 or diflock.

Outstanding Views
Barra Lake and Sea is situated at the end of a sand dune peninsula sandwitched between the Indian ocean and a huge tidal basin. Views changes throughout the day as tides goes in and out .

Description

The all inclusive Barra Lake and Sea development is located in a truly magical setting on the periphery of the vast and historic Inhambane estuary system. Without doubt it is here that trippers, tourist and travelers will encounter a warm and all embracing `Come again’ Mozambican holiday. Inhambane Provinces’ richest assets are in its undulating scenic beauty, vast coconut plantations, numerous fresh water lakes, rivers and marches, moderate to hot tropical climate with typically intense summer rainfall, fishing and wide uncluttered white beaches – Barra Lake and Sea, Bairro de Nhamua, Barra, Inhambane.

The picturesque and intriguing area in and around Nhamua is extraordinary in that not only do ancient and modern customs mingle contentedly, but also fascinating and prolific marine life abounds in the inter-tidal waters. Birds flitting amongst the palm trees, dhows languidly making their way across the estuary, star filled nights, braai fires and true Mozambican hospitality will make your Inhambane sojourn in quaint and homely accommodation at Barra Lake and Sea even more memorable. The Lodge itself is only a few meters away from the tidal waters of the lagoon ,but you would need to drive for at least 6 kilometers to the nearest beach on either the Barra side or the Tofo Side .

The Lodge is the first of 30 places to be built on the dunes of the estuary. The four family sleeping rooms are all en-suite and have private entrances from the outside walkways. Each room has got 1 double bed and 1 bunker bed, each equipped with the very best mosquito nets, mattresses and white linen. There are two kitchens that are well equipped for the self-catering of 16 people. The living area consists of a very large enclosed area overlooking the swimming pool, the lagoon and the sea, as well as two open lapas with braai areas. The buildings are done with brick and mortar to make your stay more comfortable than the average accommodation of the area .
One 6-sleeper and two 2-sleepers , as well as some camping sites, have recently been added to Barra Lake and Sea. The roads leading to Inhambane is still not perfect and a drive from Johannesburg is going to take you more than 12 hours. We recommend a sleep-over at our Lodge, Ambri Africa, in Komatipoort or at some of the neat overnight – places along the road. You need to arrive in Inhambane during clear daylight. This will ensure a pleasant and very interesting journey and a happy arrival at Barra Lake and Sea. The last 3 kilometer drive to Barra Lake and Sea is on a sand road and should be done with a 4x4 vehicle or a vehicle with high ground clearance. Do not attempt this road with a normal sedan unless you get prior assistance from the owner or his staff. If you are a first time visitor to Mozambique, please make sure that you get all the information and tips needed for your trip and your happy stay.

This latest exiting development also offers prospective buyers an opportunity to own a lodge within this secure and professionally administered holiday resort.
