Description

Africa has a spellbinding effect on most first time travellers. Many who have grown up on this continent will tell you that Africa will stay in their blood forever, no matter where they might end up in the world - it is home. In the heart of the African subcontinent lies a destination known as the real Africa. This is Zambia, where you will find remote wilderness areas, breathtaking scenery, wildlife in abundance, and a kind-hearted people. There, in the midst of the unspoilt African bush on the northern bank of the Zambezi River, directly opposite Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools World Heritage Site, you will discover Baines’ River Camp.

This true Colonial-style safari lodge, named after the famous artist and explorer Thomas Baines, offers a wide variety of activities in and around the Lower Zambezi National Park, including specialized photographic workshops, fly-fishing clinics, elephant studies and birding weeks, each hosted by internationally renowned expert guides who are passionate about the African bush and their subject.

You will feel at home from the moment you arrive at Baines’ River Camp, a luxurious and intimate safari lodge with just eight double suites, set on the northern bank of the Zambezi River amid Tamarind and Jackalberry trees. Richard awaits you in the Selous Bar with a warm welcome and a refreshing drink before you unpack and get ready for your first activity, or you may prefer to just take in the scenery and settle down with your binoculars on our main verandah or at the swimming pool to gaze over the Zambezi, Africa’s fourth largest river. As you make yourself comfortable on the sofa of your private verandah with a book from our growing library collection, you will probably wonder why you only booked to stay for three nights.
