Quiver trees stand in stark silhouette against the African sky, silent sentinels in a strangely unique environment where only those that are able to adapt ultimately survive. The 55,383 hectares on both the northern and southern sides of the Orange River provide sanctuary to a diversity of species, from the very smallest succulents, birds and reptiles to springbok, gemsbok and giraffe.

Augrabies is a lovely campsite, but I am afraid to say that it is overrun with monkeys - we couldnt even eat outside without having the monkeys take our food out of our hands! I hope that something will be done about this otherwise your campsite is going to be empty.

The experience to return after 27 years was definitely worth the effort. The service of the park and those who run it is comparable to Niagara Falls. The only problem that I had was the convenience store who's unrealistic prices for everything even chased away foreigners, which I saw myself. This store should be placed under the direct supervision of the National Parks and not be outsourced. Otherwise a great time. Thanks.
