Artemis Barn Cottages is located a mere 10-minute walk from the village of Franschhoek, South Africa's food and wine capital. Enjoy the peace, magnificent mountain views and koi ponds set in an indigenous garden.

We offer two self-catering cottages where you can walk our labyrinth or just enjoy the rooms with soft murals and mosaic bathrooms. Our gardens are full of sculptures, birds, wildlife and even the occasional chameleon.

Come for a weekend or a week and enjoy the views, the peace and tranquillity. Picnic in the evening light at the top dam with exquisite views over the mountains, have a braai under the starlit sky, or just sit and relax.

We offer various specials and packages. The Breakfast Special includes breakfast in the fridge for the first morning - two small yogurts, 200 g of homemade muesli, a pack of cheese slices, four fresh free range eggs, smoked bacon and homemade marmalade or jam. Plus half a fresh baked bread of rye, French or ciabatta with 200 g of farm butter. A small milk for coffee or tea is provided. Additionally we supply fruit from the farm when available. The price is available on request.

The Braai Pack includes wood, matches, ‘boerewors’, two drumsticks and two lamb chops and fresh salad/ or vegetable produce from the farm, organic if available. Plus we provide two big potatoes and four beers or a bottle of white or red wine. And fresh farm herbs and homemade olive oil for salads and cooking. The price is available on request.

A 40-minutes Reiki session, including several massage techniques and crystal therapy, is available for R200 per session.

A Private Art Tour of the gallery and an art walk through the fynbos garden by artist Andrea Desmond-Smith, herself. This is a total of 40 minutes including coffee or tea and some pastry. A maximum of six people at R200 for the tour, are allowed.

The Art Class Special offers one-on-one art classes. This can be drawing and/or painting, including materials. It is a one-day course with a tea break. A maximum of four people for R 950 pp allowed.

The Workshop Special is a presentation of blacksmith art work. A maximum of four people per workshop and it includes a personalized gift at R 650.

Bread Making - this is great fun. ‘Cheat’s bread-making’ requires a group of friends together where you will make bread in the workshop and cook it in the pottery kiln. Six to eight people per session. The bread-making course with bread and cheese lunch is R150 pp.

Lovely, relaxing, clean and wholesome rooms with wonderful touches like homemade rusks and great coffee. The views are spectacular, short walk to town and even in walking distance of a couple of wine farms. Only wished we could have stayed longer!

We really enjoyed our stay with Kobus and Anthea. The care taken with the cottage and surrounds were remarkable. Thank you for making us aware of your appreciation of nature and the beauty of Franschhoek.

We wanted to do a quick stop over in Franschhoek before departing to Wellington to attend a wedding over the long weekend. Unfortunately the plane was delayed and we eventually only arrived at about 11:30 pm at Artemis Barn. But Kobus didn't mind waiting for us and really made us feel welcome. We slept like babies and awoke to the most beautiful scenery of the valley below. We enjoyed our morning rusks and coffee and were grateful for the handmade olives he shared with us! Thanks for a memorable stay.

We had a great stay at Artemis Barn Cottages. We were a party of 3 and rented both cottages for 2 nights. We would have happily stayed another 5! The tranquility of the location, combined with the proximity to the Main Road shops/restaurants, plus the creative finishes and art that Kobus and Andrea's property exudes combine to create a near-perfect combination. The additional bonuses that we had not counted on included, swimming with the gold fish in the dam; the nature walk with arty distractions; walking the labyrinth by moonlight; being encouraged to stay all day on our final day (no urgency to check out!); the coffee, olives, rusks; and the shear hospitality of the hosts which is welcoming without ever being overbearing. We highly recommend Artemis Barn Cottages!
