  • Description
  • Facilities
Alte Kalkofen Lodge is situated 100 km west from the small historical town Keetmanshoop en-route the main tar road to Luderitz in the Southern part of Namibia. The lodge is set in a beautiful natural African garden where vast open spaces effortlessly combine with the rocky dessert area.

The lodge itself offers 10 bungalows as well as two rooms in the farm house, all overlooking large camel thorn trees growing in the river bed. The lodge features its own restaurant where breakfast is served daily. The restaurant is also open to guests for light lunches and home-cooked evening meals.

The area is historical, with many museums, and the lodge itself is a testimony to this. The name Alte Kalköfen, is derived from two old lime ovens situated on the farms Simplon and Sandverhaar. Both ovens were built in the early 1900s with the purpose to produce lime that was used for construction and agricultural purposes.

What a wonderful interesting place to stay in Namibia. Accommodation and food excellent and the hosts could not have been friendlier or more helpful, even helped organize a spare tyre for our car without any fuss. The best Gemsbok steak I have ever tasted. The swim in the swimming dam was a real treat. Loved watching all the animals at the waterhole all through the night. So sorry we only spent one night. My husband had a wonderful mountain biking experience. We feel Alta Kalkofen is undersold. We will be back for sure.

This was an excellent experience - we thought we have a self catering unit, fortunately we did not bought food. A small fridge in the room might be a good idea for cooldrink and cold water.

We had a wonderful at the lodge. Frik and Hilda run an exceptional entity and they give it their all. I hope the standards set will continue to grow.

After a day travelling from Springbok via the Fish River Canyon, we were exhausted and hoping for a perfect place to unwind...that is exactly what we found. Sadly we arrived after dark so we missed the sunset but the sunrise at the lodge the following morning was spectacular. The room was comfortable with rustic charm and the view of the watering hole was delightful. The hosts made us feel very welcome and shortly after we arrived, we were served a superb meal - the best meal I have had in a long while and certainly the best food I ate whilst in Namibia. Unfortunately, we had to leave early in the morning to continue our travels through Namibia so we didn't get the chance to sample the inviting looking pool. We will have to return again so we can spend more time relaxing at this wonderful lodge.

We really enjoyed our stay. We were spoiled from the moment we arrived. The interior decor is very stylish and artistic. The food was excellent and also prepared and served by the owners themselves. The view from the cottages is stunning. We were even spoiled by hot waterbottles for the beds. I strongly recommend staying over at Alte Kalkofen Lodge.
