Most finishes and furniture were made by local entrepreneurs and artists, and the spacious rooms make a longer term stay easy and comfortable.
Our accommodation offers great value for money and all rooms feature en-suite bathrooms and fully equipped self-catering kitchens, while private patios offer spectacular views of the garden, Langeberg Mountains and Swellendam itself. Sleeping here takes on a new meaning, with king-size beds fitted with 100% cotton sheets and down duvets. Twin beds can also be requested upon making your reservation.
We offer guests the option of a fully stocked fridge for breakfast, so you can enjoy it in the privacy of your own room or patio, at a time convenient for yourself and your family. Or if you don’t feel like going out for lunch, you can enjoy a picnic in the garden. At the end of the day, relax and unwind in a restful environment away from the hustle and bustle, yet close enough to explore Swellendam’s attractions. A Hilltop Country Retreat treats you to high standards of hospitality throughout, but it’s also a great base for trips and excursions.
The town of Swellendam has earned its notoriety as a popular traveller’s destination thanks to its breathtaking nature and its incomparable charm. We are athlete-friendly and can point you in the right direction for a good workout, with a five-minute walk taking you straight into the mountains.
Only a two hour scenic drive from Cape Town or George, Swellendam is ideally situated for visitors to the Garden Route and the Little Karoo. A charming farming town located in the largest youngberry growing area in the world, it is an ideal centre for touring the Breede River Wine Route, visiting Agulhas, the southern-most tip of Africa, walking in Marloth Nature Reserve, or visiting the Bontebok and de Hoop Nature Reserve.
