Bilene Town of Gaza

Bilene - Bilene is a beautiful venue where one goes to unwind and enjoy the scenery and markets. Of course not forgetting the fantastic food and local drinks. The only down site was getting stuck in traffic heading north for almost 3 hrs, we almost turned back home.

Xai Xai Town of Gaza

Anything is better than Maputo - Xai Xai is little jewel on the banks of the Limpopo River. Well kept in terms of roads, structures and shops.

Xai Xai Town of Gaza

PEACE AT A PRICE - A lovely restful venue, very rural. A good Checkers in town but at nearly double SA prices. Do take some music or books along. Fish and prawns are no longer a reality. Take your own rods or diving equipment. On the road to Maputo, as well as up the coast, the first 50km are a nightmare. Allow 6 to 7 hours!

Bilene Town of Gaza

- Greatly disappointed in the furore made about Bilene. Smelly lagoon, 4x4 or walk. The great white sandy "beach" is unreachable! Do yourself a favour and drive a bit further to the sea. Could've been anywhere (in Africa) if it wasn't for the locals. Very friendly, poor, rural. Visited in July and hot, hot, hot. Lovely. Probably hellish in mid-summer. Roads are s-l-o-w. Too far for what one gets. Sorry Bilene, a big hype about nothing.

Xai Xai Town of Gaza

Xai Xai - I found Xai Xai to be a fabulous beach holiday. Our resort was awesome, the beaches clean, the sea lovely when low tide, no scuba/snorkelling, but hey, we don't control the weather. The locals either fantastically friendly or harassing. Tourism is their livelihood. This is Africa in it's rural form. NO problem with credit card purchases at Shoprite or cash withdrawals. Many major banks. pharmacy, vegetable stalls, enough alcohol outlets. Only fresh meat could be a problem otherwise one can purchase anything at a price. My only nightmare was the time and pace to drive. Much too many corrupt police officials with too many stoppages. If one is prepared to drive the distance, Xai Xai is fabulous. Forget Bilene.
