Zomba Forest Lodge is set in 60 acres of mixed woodland; varying from indigenous rainforest in the valley by the stream, to pine on the slopes and large eucalyptus trees overhanging the garden.
The cottage consists of four en-suite bedrooms, an open-plan living area with a fireplace and a fully equipped kitchen. Breakfast and dinner can be arranged on request, as all food are prepared fresh and will be stocked accordingly.
It sits just inside the forest reserve, with plenty of easy walking trails meandering around it. There are plenty of more strenuous hiking trails around the plateau, as well as horse riding at the Plateau Stables, an alternative way to explore.
There is an immense variety of birds, including the rare crimson wing and the double-coloured forest sunbird feeding from the flowers mere inches from the veranda.
Zomba town is also worth a visit, being the old colonial capital of Malawi, it is home to some of the country’s oldest buildings. The city’s laid back atmosphere makes it perfect for those wanting to meander around with no haste.
