Big Cave Camp reposes atop an enormous granite whaleback commanding inspirational views across the famous Matobo National Park. Sophisticated African architecture incorporates colossal boulders into a luxuriously appointed thatch lodge positioned amidst ancient Khoisan rock art.

Retire at day’s end to the natural rock pool and sundeck, the Leopard’s Lair Lounge and Bar, a cave-style boma for pre-dinner drinks or the popular lodge library. Big Cave Camp resides on a 2000-acre private wilderness area that borders Matobo National Park and is included in a World Heritage Area.

There are seven thatched A-frame cottages, each with an en-suite bathroom and a private balcony, which resonate African creative flair. Find solitude within an intimate retreat as secluded as the original Kalanga grain bins that nestle among the rocks. Included is a honeymoon suite as well as family rooms for those with small children.

Game viewing is done both on the private property as well as into the Whovi Game Park. Guests can choose to walk or view the game from open four-wheel drive vehicles to view, in particular, black and white rhino, among a wide variety of plains game. Night drives on the Big Cave wilderness area can be enjoyed, depending on the time of the year, to view the nocturnal creatures of the Matobo Hills.

Matobo Hills boasts one of the highest concentrations of birds of prey anywhere in the world. Big Cave has several nesting sites on and adjacent to the property. The black eagle is one of the more majestic birds to grace the area, and another sought-after species is the elusive Cape Mackinder’s eagle owl. Big Cave offers excellent opportunities for the birdwatcher.

The Matobo Hills has one of the highest concentrations of rock art anywhere in the world. This ancient Khoisan art can be viewed in the both the national park and even within the immediate vicinity of Big Cave Camp. These famous rock art galleries can be visited on foot or by 4x4. One of the more famous sites is Nswatugi Cave, which is normally combined with a trip to Rhodes Grave, World’s View, which is a beautiful drive through the recreational park.

Tours to the nearby Ndebele village and Whitewaters Secondary School provides an insight into the lives of the local people. The school in particular has been supported by guests of Big Cave Camp for many years.

Tucked away into an ancient bushman's shelter, Camp Amalinda's charm will leave an indelible impression on every visitor. Some of the most majestic granite scenery in the world is found in the Matobo Hills. It is here that the hopes, trials and tribulations of the San Bushmen are recorded in the ancient rock art. Mammal and bird species are prolific and include the highest concentration of leopard and black eagle in the world.

Rated one of Africa's top ten boutique lodges by Conde Naste Traveller in 1998. Camp Amalinda consists of nine individually thatched rooms including three romantic honeymoon suites. You'll notice when entering your cave-like suite, the stark contrast between rough granite and uncompromisingly high levels of comfort, style and class - all in the keeping with its surrounds.

Each suite has been individually designed around great boulders and each differs in ambience in order to create a romantic feel without losing the vital soul of Africa herself. The honeymoon suites pay tribute to two great men, CJ Rhodes and King Lobengula, both suites are decorated by a mix of traditional, historic and nostalgic memorabilia. The lounge and entertainment area is tucked away into a bushman shelter with a panoramic view of the Matobo Hills. Delicious meals are served on a massive teak table in the open-air dining room.

A cosy library contains some of the old 'African classics', while a secluded chess room, located among the tree tops guarantees peace and tranquility. For the wine connoisseur, we recommend a visit to our natural cave wine cellar. At the base of the camp is Amalinda's famous 'rock' swimming pool, naturally shaped and carved over centuries by rain and wind erosion from a massive granite dome. It is here where African memories are made.

Safari Spa, among this most miraculous granite backdrop is an irresistible treasure worth experiencing, drift away on crisp linen, while the scents of ancient African aromas swirl under the canopy of thatch and rock. Drops of aromatherapy oils are added to generous amounts of carrot and nut oils for that exclusive and private massage. A sauna is also available. Camp Amalinda is a spiritual sanctuary which incorporates the sensitive beauty of the magnificent Matobo Hills and Africa's wide open spaces.

Ivory Lodge is a small intimate lodge featuring nine luxurious suites set on elevated platforms among the indigenous flora of Hwange Game Park Deep, in the mystical teak forests of Hwange is this unobtrusive camp, bathed in the tales of pioneering hunters and explorers. Lumbering giants drift around your stilted platforms, their tusks glinting in salute to the sanctuary of shade offered up by these massive trees.

This is Ivory Lodge, place of elephants. It is here that great herds of elephants are found, sometimes over 100 strong. It is also here that the famous presidential herd drinks. Hwange is famous for its huge tuskers, big old bulls with magnificent tusks. The elephants move in seasonal migration from Botswana's dense feeding areas, to Hwange Game Park where they find refuge from the scorching heat at Ivory's waterhole.

Silently and elegantly, the lodge stands over the waterhole - watch by floodlight under a star-spangled African night sky - the elephants in their play-fighting with their display of instinctive rituals, their caressing and murmurings, all which speak of years gone by.

“Driving you Wild”, our in-house safari connection, is our means of transport to and from Vistoria Falls and Bulawayo and Camp Amalinda. Quotations are available on request on our 14-seater Toyota Quantum fully air-conditioned bus. To view our other accommodation, Camp Amalinda, go to www.safarinow.com/go/campamalinda.

Miombo Safari Camp has the distinction of being the closest quality accommodation to Hwange National Park main gate. The camp is located on a private concession within the eastern border of Hwange National Park, a dedicated nature nirvana that extends westward to link with the Kasane Forest and Chobe region of neighbouring Botswana. This glorious National Park rightfully boasts the highest concentration of wildlife species of any safari region in Africa. At Miombo Safari Camp, discerning safari guests will undoubtedly experience the wonders of the African bush up close and personal, under the watchful and big-hearted hospitality bestowed by the Miombo Safari Camp team.

Hwange National Park has always been heralded as the 'Jewel of Africa for safari experiences and has earned a worldwide reputation for its large herds of resident buffalo, its predators and more especially so, huge numbers of African elephant. On the doorstep of this astonishingly wildlife rich National Park, Miombo Safari Camp is unreservedly one of Zimbabwe’s best-kept secrets.

Miombo Safari Camp offers brand new boutique raised-above-ground-level platforms, atop of which are exquisite luxury safari suites, configured to accommodate two guests in queen-size, double or twin bed configurations. The forward-facing folding doors that open out onto the veranda overlooking the waterhole also have large bug-screens and roll-down blinds. The Hide Safari Camp is the product of our passion for nature in general, and Hwange National Park in particular. Built in 1992, The Hide Safari Camp has earned its reputation as a consummate safari destination, for both the exceptional wildlife experience and the hospitality it offers.

As our guest, you'll stay in one of 10 beautiful tented suites with views over the waterhole where animals congregate day and night. Between game drives and walks in the national park, there is plenty of time to relax in a comfortable lounge or sit quietly in a hide to watch the wildlife. After meals which are enjoyed together around a giant table or al fresco under the acacia trees, you can spend a lazy afternoon by the plunge pool or in the shade of your verandah.

Since The Hide Safari Camp was sited in one of Hwange National Park’s prime wildlife areas nearly 20 years ago, we have distilled the essence of the safari experience and embellished it with our own distinctive style. Hwange was once the royal hunting ground of Ndebele Kings and has long been known for its abundant and diverse wildlife. In particular, the park is known for herds of elephant and buffalo numbering in the 100s. This is one of the best places to see lion, leopard and African wild dog among the 100 or so other mammal and 400 bird species.

We are passionate about nature; we have built on our superb location and have extensive knowledge of the park with the best expert guides so that you can experience the true wilderness and wildlife Hwange has to offer. Whether on a drive to one of Hwange’s game-rich pans, on foot within our private concession, or sleeping out in The Dove’s Nest, there is never a dull moment. In fact, the waterhole located metres away attracts such a variety of life that you may not need to roam far from your verandah to be a part of the action.

Nestled in the granite outcrops above a bend in the Nyamasanga River, Valley View Lodge affords breathtaking views over Bushman Rock Estate. The beautifully manicured gardens and rolling lawns are encircled by a bubbling seasonal stream, a network of small lakes, and the vine-covered valley.

Hidden amongst tall indigenous trees, the thatched lodges offer complete privacy and take the form of double, twin or family suites, all decorated in a subtle African theme. With their private lounges and four-poster beds, the lodges provide guests with their own oasis in which to ease saddle-weary muscles.

At Bushman Rock we believe that a lodge-based safari offers the chance to unpack your bags and relax travel-worn bodies. The lawns and lush gardens are perfect for the quiet contemplation of nature, reading or simply unwinding. The surrounding Msasa woodland provides cool shade from which to watch the polo ponies in training or the wild fowl at play on the river.

As our name suggests, the swimming pool and surrounding decking afford stunning views of the valley and vineyards beyond. Looking out over the vineyards and Theo's Lake, guests may make out antelope or giraffe feeding in the savannah areas in the distance. If the strong African sun becomes too intense, shelter may be found in the coolness of the library or the comfort of the drawing room at the central lodge.

Southern African cuisine has been influenced by the vast number of different cultures that passed through the region. The Passaportis family has been in Africa for over 150 years and the meals served at Bushman Rock will show tastes of traditional African, Cypriot, English, German and Afrikaans. The majority of food served is grown and produced on Bushman Rock Estate, and we pride ourselves on our organic vegetable garden, free-range eggs and extensive orchard. Jono Passaportis and his team try to offer as personal an experience as possible. Dining is a communal affair and meals can be served in the dining room, beside the pool or around the fire-pit, depending on the weather.

Lying hidden within the picturesque Nyamasanga River Valley is Bushman Rock Estate Winery and Vineyard, currently the only boutique winery in Zimbabwe. At Bushman Rock, we understand that one’s relationship with wine is personal and believe that visitors with an appreciation of wine will enjoy our diverse range.
