This beautifully renovated building was originally a shed on De Melkbosch farm in the 1700's. The water from a fountain nearby used to form a dam next to the shed, hence the name 'Damhuis' (dam house). Where this dam once lay, the bustling Beach Road is now winding. This restaurant offers seating inside and outside, but it is outside in the courtyard where you want to be, weather permitting. Beautiful, uninterrupted views of the beach and the vast Atlantic greet you as you start your day with one of the delicious breakfasts. Try a small, medium or large English breakfast, a delicious omelette, a continental breakfast or even a 'slimmer's' breakfast. The dishes are all freshly prepared with lots of care and attention to detail. Gorgeous tapas can also be enjoyed with a glass or three of wine on a laxzy sunny afternoon. The menu is quite extensive and some of the starter dishes are mussels steamed in a white wine sauce served with freshly baked bread, tender tubes of calamari and peri peri chicken livers. For a main, try one any one of the seafood, chicken or meat dishes. From the catch of the day and paprika prawns to a chicken curry and the 'Cock of all Chicken Pies'. A range of succulent steaks, lamb dishes, proudly South African tripe and bobotie and even a humungous burger option leaves diners spoilt for choice. The Damhuis combines beautiful views, great food, and a location not easily matched to create a winning recipe.

Eaglevlei Estate in the stunning Stellenbosch winelands is home to The Vineyard Kitchen. Don’t be misled to equate the restaurant’s name with old fashioned farm food. Here patrons are promised a menu that reads like gastronomic adventure. Chef Herbie van Schalkwyk aims to wow guests with food that is created to “satisfy the entire palate at once”. The menu is as daring as it is exciting: a unique interpretation of Traditional South African Cuisine. Expect menu items to the likes of Snoek Bobotie with coconut risotto, apricot cocktail, caramelised banana mash potatoes and chilli jam; or Ostrich steak with sweet potato cake, peppadew puree, walnut and Amarula sauce. Desserts are equally dreamy with Trio of South Africa: a cocktail Milktart, Koeksister ice-cream, caramelised banana and Pinotage Crème Brûlée. Although the Vineyard Kitchen dares one with its latest menu inventions it does not fail to cater more simply for the less adventurous (burgers and tappas) and children (hotdogs with smilely - face chips). The beauty of the farm is a breath-taking back drop and makes The Vineyard Kitchen a great location for marvellous meal.
