Cafe Mao in City Bowl

Cafe Mao

City Bowl Asian restaurant in City Bowl
Try delectable Asian fusion cuisine in this trendy but comfortable restaurant in the bustling City Bowl area. The interior is invigorating and funky with Andy Warhol-inspired prints of the infamous and famous Mao and Monroe. This visual feast is greatly complemented by extremely flavourful food assembled in original, well-presented dishes. The dishes come with a variety of 'chilli factors' and if you're a lover of hot stuff, you will enjoy the Chilli Lime Beef - a word of warning though, it is not for the faint-hearted. Service is quick, attentive and personalized and the owner is hands-on and extremely hospitable and friendly. If it is strong flavours and upbeat surroundings you are looking for, Mao is the place to visit. Whether you are in the mood for a quick meal or a lengthy, social get-together, you will not be dissappointed. Mao is open from 12 pm for lunch and dinner.

Casa Valdez in Somerset West

Casa Valdez

Somerset West Portuguese restaurant in Somerset West
This tavern-style restaurant offers a relaxing atmosphere that exudes the warmth and welcoming feel that a true Portuguese establishment should have. The menu is simple but delightful and offers dishes that will leave you satisfied - with sticky fingers no doubt. Dishes include almost all the peri peri favourites and the grilled meats are served after being cooked to perfection...and taste. Try the awesome, conversation-starting espetadas, cubed pieces of succulent meat that drenches the chips below in the wonderful flavours of the sauce and basting it was prepared in. Other dishes include the traditional chargrilled chicken and the melt-in-your-mouth prawns. The interior is filled with Portuguese memorabilia, rustic wooden benches and wooden tables, all surrounding the central fireplace that lends a cosy feel to the room. The wine list comprises good South African bottles, and even some imports from Portugal.
