Die Kliphuis is literally on the beach - no road in between - and offers the most stunning views of the vast Atlantic Ocean. Be sure to try catch a sunset. Right after you are led to your beautifully dressed table, a chair gets pulled out for you and heated towels are provided to wash your hands. This might sound quite pretentious, but in this setting you will feel true chivalry instead of an uppity atmosphere. You are then treated to bread and sometimes a small cup of soup to get that appetite going. The menu is large and you will find yourself spoilt for choice. Try the chicken cordon bleu, juicy and perfectly cooked, one of the succulent steaks or one of the many freshly prepared seafood dishes. Harbour House in V and A Waterfront

Harbour House

V and A Waterfront International restaurant in V and A Waterfront
Harbour House masters the art of understated elegance and their food follows the same trend. If it is fine dining without the overly pretentious food you're after, this is the place to be. Situated right by the water's edge with the bustle of the waterfront around you, Harbour House still exudes a relaxed, tranquil ambience. International cuisine with a hint of Mediterranean and French influence is the speciality here, but their seafood is definitely one of their more passionate endeavours. A great bar area allows patrons to let their hair down and, as for the menu, you really are spoilt for choice. This is the ideal setting for that special occasion. Booking is advised.

Pierneef a la Motte in Franschhoek

Pierneef a la Motte

Franschhoek Dutch restaurant in Franschhoek
Pierneef a la Motte Restaurant’s name is inspired by the great South African artist Jacob Hendrik Pierneef (1886 – 1957). Along with being able to view a collection of paintings by the legend in the restaurant, patrons can embark on a reminiscent culinary journey that explores the best of traditional Cape Winelands’ cuisine. The restaurant setting is very much Cape Dutch with a contemporary spin. The emphasis on oak furnishings along with glass vases marries the beauty of the outdoor scenery perfectly, thereby creating a relaxed and subtly sophisticated ambience. The menu is nothing short of a history lesson in the development of local traditional cooking. Expect to find the best traditional fare that is unashamedly South African. Menu items include starters of Boerbok terrine or the Koningsbrood soup. Mains serve up Pomegranate glazed Smoked Pork Belly and Impala Neck. And for dessert who can resist the Brandy Chocolate Pudding? The wine list is extensive and offers a full selection of the farm’s own as well as other overseas brands. One can indulge in a food and wine pairing at the Tasting Centre. The restaurant also has a children’s menu.
