Alpenstube in Hout Bay

Alpenstube

Hout Bay German restaurant in Hout Bay
Having spent their entire working lives in the food and hospitality industry - both locally and internationally - new owners, Kurt and Petra Schramm, have all the right qualifications to firmly place Alpenstube on the destination restaurant map in the picturesque surrounds of Hout Bay. Much needed improvements include a new front patio, a revamped outside bar and beer garden, and a fireplace for the cold winters. Alpenstube offers a very versatile indoor-outdoor dining experience where you can relax and savour an imported German draught beer in the garden, have coffee and homemade pastries on the front patio, and enjoy a leisurely lunch or intimate dinner in the cosy interior. Aside from its large following of locals who carry them through the winter months, Alpenstube is fortunate to have many overseas visitors – German, Dutch and English - who, like the swallows, return year after year to their favourite Hout Bay haunt. Now open at lunch time, the well-priced menu features traditional specialties such as Geschnetzeltes, thinly sliced port fillet in a creamy mushroom sauce, alongside light meals such as the Chef’s Burger, seasonal salads and a couple of soups. Master Chef Kurt has thoughtfully included several menu items specifically for children so that Alpenstube can be enjoyed by the whole family. The signature dish must surely be the traditional Eisbein, but please call in advance to check availability. Other dinner recommendations are the grilled Fillet Steak, as well as Schnitzels to suit all tastes – pork, veal and chicken. You will also find fresh fish on the menu when available from the harbor. The pastries, desserts and cakes are all homemade, so why not indulge in whatever takes your fancy.

Col'Cacchio in Century City

Col'Cacchio

Century City Italian restaurant in Century City
Col'Cacchio is a vibrant, modern take on the traditional Italian kitchen and serves up arguably some of the best Italian food. Originality meets rustic and familiar in this beautifully decorated spot in Canal Walk Shopping Centre. Start off with an Insalata (salad), and if you think this is a boring option, think again. Ingredients like rocket, roasted beetroot, roasted butternut, feta, crispy onions, pomegranate arils, green yogurt dressing, caramelized pear and loads more combine to form a wide variety of explosive flavours. The pizzas are woodfired, as pizza should be, and toppings range from the traditional like bacon, onions and mushrooms to the more exotic seven-hour lamb stew. A bambini (kids) menu is also available with some traditional favourites. The dessert menu does not dissappoint either and offers dishes like chocolate pizza with a choice of toppings, a Lindt chocolate trio, proudly South African malva pudding, white chocolate cheese cake and the old Italian favourite, tiramisu. This well-priced restaurant will not dissappoint and is a definite recommendation for those who love comfort food with a modern twist.
