Strand Fine Dining restaurant
Alex Garden Restaurant is situated close to the beach and offers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of this popular seaside town.
The historical building, indigenous garden and the exquisite decor combine to create an extra special dining experience.
The menu is small but does not disappoint with starters like seared kudu carpaccio drizzled with mustard dressing and served with parmesan shavings and tomato concassé, and a twice baked goats cheese soufflé with a homemade tomato chutney. The tempura prawns with chilli mayonnaise and ginger and butternut soup with croutons are also not to be missed.
Try your palate at some game with the pan-fried blesbok rolled in mixed peppercorns with a juniper berry sauce. The panfried sole in a foamy butter sauce with lemon and parsley is a real melt-in-your-mouth option. A more traditional option is the vegetarian lasagne, rich in flavour and extremely decadent.

Cafe Miam, formerly known as MiamMiam is an upbeat, club-style restaurant and function venue conveniently located in the bustling City Bowl area. The breathtaking Banhoek Valley is a home to Zorgvleit Wine Estate. Located on the perimeter of Stellenbosch, this wine estate boasts The Herenhuis restaurant with a historic presence that dates back to 1692 and offers patrons gourmet renditions of traditional South African cuisine.
Much of the charm of the establishment is embedded in its history. The homestead of the farm that houses the restaurant has been meticulously restored with every effort to retain the original ceilings structures. This aspect paired with the paintings (specially commissioned to capture the beauty of the farm) creates a particular ambiance that has guests feel transported to a time gone by.
Chef Darius van Rensburg and owner Marietjie van der Merwe combined forces to forge a menu that is a fresh interpretation of the traditional. Popular dishes on the summer menu include the crayfish cocktail and the linguine with smoked mountain trout. The wine estate’s deli also caters for traditional picnics to be taken under its oak trees, while Sundays afford family and friends braai (barbeque) picnic options.

The Fishmonger, a restaurant that specializes in the best available seafood, is located at the pulse of the historic town of Stellenbosch. The Hussar Grill is definitely a must-try in the Tyger Valley area. Ideally located in the Willowbridge centre, close to the Barnyard Theatre, this restaurant is the perfect pre- or post-show lunch and dinner spot.
The Hussar Grill offers outstanding quality at reasonable prices. The restaurant prides itself on super grade, grain-fed beef cuts such as fillet, rump, sirloin and T-bone. Usually diners can enjoy great game as well; these include kudu, springok, gemsbok, and eland and the more common ostrich. If you left your inner carnivore at home, you can always enjoy one of the delicious seafood dishes.
A great selection of wine is available, but should you wish to bring your own, no corkage is charged. The restaurant is open from Monday to Saturday from 12 pm until 11 pm and on Sundays from 12 pm until 5 pm.
Hermanus Seafood restaurant
