This lovely old house is set in the heart of leafy Rondebosch, in the shadow of Table Mountain. Roodenburg House was built in 1882, according to the Arts and Crafts style of architecture finding favour in Victorian England and its colonies. Roodenburg was its original name, named after the original allotment at this site to one of Jan Van Riebeeks "free burgers".

Roodenburg House offers five beautifully decorated en-suite bedrooms, all featuring a flat screen TV, ADSL, air-conditioning, personal safes, refreshment trays, and crisp percale linen. We also have a gym with lovely views of the park, a pool area with a landscaped garden, and very secure gated parking for guests.

Roodenburg House has the benefit of being centrally situated to all major tourist attractions, as well as the University of Cape Town, Bishops, and Rondebosch Boys, and is a mere eight-minute walk to the Newlands rugby and cricket grounds. Cape Town International Airport and the CBD are only a 15 minute drive from our door.

Here is a guest house with a difference. From the street it looks like three Victorian terrace houses, but when you step inside it is as though the place stretches out in front of you. The ceilings are high, the rooms generous and the décor, featured in many local and international travel magazines, is coloured with an African flourish.

An African Villa is located in a quiet residential street within walking distance of the city centre and many local restaurants. The house and the staff have received many accolades for service and facilities, one of them being from the last three years' Tripadvisor “Traveller’s Choice Award”. An African Villa is also recommended by Frommer’s Guide, Lonely Planet and Greenwood Guide.

There are three large common areas; a library with complimentary Internet access, a lounge with a complimentary taxi phone as well as port and sherry on offer at night, and a dining room where you will be greeted by a heart-warming full breakfast and a flickering fire in winter. In summer, breakfast is served outdoors in the peaceful courtyard beside the pool. There is also an honesty bar in the kitchen and complimentary cake available.

We offer 13 en-suite rooms, of which five are Platinum Class, each with a full bathroom and balcony, two are Gold Class, each with a full bathroom, four are Silver Class, each with a shower room, and then there are the two Bronze Class rooms, each with a shower room facing a quiet street.

The owners' manage the house personally and are always on call to help you make your Cape Town vacation memorable, and all of the staff enjoy their work and are generous with their time and talents. They can be found happily baking fresh goodies for breakfast and tea, making tea or coffee for you on arrival, carrying your luggage, directing you to the city, or booking restaurants, car rentals and tours for you. They will even drop off your laundry. Come and experience An African Villa and a memorable holiday.

Bo-Kapie self-catering cottage, built in 1833, is one of the oldest houses in Swellendam. It is also the last of the houses dating back to the slave history of Swellendam, which ended with their emancipation in 1834. Swellendam is situated on the N2 National Road, midway between Cape Town and George on the scenic Garden Route, and is the third oldest town in South Africa.

Bo-Kapie is a little flat-roofed Cape Georgian-style cottage with a moulded parapet, which was the preferred style of the Muslim artisans of the time. It is reminiscent of the typical Bo-Kaap houses in upper Cape Town, as they still exist today. The vertical panelled front door with fanlight has replaced the stable door of the Cape Dutch style and typically, this fanlight is also the only window of the "voorhuis" or front room.

A romantic little hideaway, Bo-Kapie cottage oozes charm and nostalgia. Furnishing is simple, with pieces aged by life. Accommodation is offered in two bedrooms; the main bedroom is en-suite with a Victorian bath and there is also a second bathroom. The outside flatlet features twin beds and a shower bathroom en-suite. Bo-Kapie sleeps up to eight guests and is fully equipped for self-catering and bedding is also provided. Features include an open hearth in the living room and kitchen area, with plenty of wood provided.

The cottage is centrally situated for museums, restaurants, shops, golf courses, hiking trails, and Marloth and Bontebok Nature Reserves. With so much to see and do in and around Swellendam, Bo-Kapie invites you for a longer stay.

The rates displayed are for up to three people. Additional people will be charged at R200 per night.

Our cottages have been a part of Oakhurst for the past 30 years; they were originally built for Oakhurst’s farmhands, who in the past year have obtained new housing. The five cottages have now been authentically restored, with every possible attention to detail.

In true Oakhurst tradition, we’ve kept a little of the history intact by naming the cottages after their original inhabitants. Kween’s Kaya, Awies Attic, Leenies Lair, Hans’s Hollow and Nick’s Nook are set along the edge of a section of forest, intersected with a gurgling stream that flows during the rainy periods.

Each cottage is privately positioned and fully set up for self-catering, with a well-equipped kitchen and cosy living area with wooden floors. The living area in turn opens out onto a large wooden deck and braai area. This is the spot where you can either enjoy a good meal around the large wooden table or simply enjoy some of Oakhurst’s fine mountain air while getting stuck into a good book.

Each cottage features three bedrooms, one double and two twins, and sleeps up to six people. There is also a central bathroom with a shower. Garden Route winters can be cold, and a fire roaring in the kitchen’s wood-burning stove sets the perfect atmosphere for farm winters.

Ideal for families, a group of friends or even larger groups, our farm cottages make a superb Garden Route escape, just a short drive from the beach and a stone's throw from the mountains.

The castle sits within the Noetzie Conservancy, established in 1999. Its remote but stunning location offers total privacy and seclusion, far removed from the hustle and bustle of 21st-century living.

Just 20 minutes from Knysna, the castle’s oceanfront location and eccentric mediaeval turreted design makes it a spectacular sight. It overlooks one of the country’s most beautiful and unspoiled sandy beaches where rocky outcrops harbour mussels and wild oysters. Here the gentle Noetzie River meets the sea, meandering between the towering fynbos-covered cliffs that are an integral part of this prime conservation area.

The house has six bedrooms of which three are accessed from the main castle and the other three are accessed by stairs on the outside walls of the castle. Most of them have en-suite bathrooms for added comfort.

The large lounge has comfortable seating around a blazing fireplace. The open-plan TV lounge has a large flat-screen TV with DStv. There is a small office area with ADSL wireless Internet and a small drinks cooler box.

The spacious kitchern is well equipped with a gas oven, a gas hob, a small microwave, a large fridge-freezer, a kettle and a double toaster. There is a separate dining room with a large circular table seating 12 people.

The outside entertainment area is perfect for braais with a built-in wood braai and tables and chairs. There are three sun loungers where guests can rest and catch up on the summer rays. This is the ideal place for a beachside holiday. A few steps from the castle is a secluded beach with white sands and blue waters.
