Stillewaters Self-Catering is a lovely old farm house on a working farm. The farm is only five kilometres from Richmond and the N1, en-route to Graaff Reinet.

This spacious house is booked for one group at a time. It can comfortably sleep 10 people in three bedrooms. The kitchen is fully-equipped and includes under-floor heating. There is a sitting room with an indoor braai area, a dining room and an enclosed courtyard ideal for pets. Although a bit on the old side, everything is in working order, clean and neat. Meals are available when requested in advance.

There is a river that runs only a few meters from the house and a rainwater dam on the western side of the yard. All this water attracts numerous bird species, making for excellent bird watching and photography.

We are proud of the tame nature of the wild animals and strive enthusiastically to maintain this state of affairs in order that game may be viewed and photographed in their natural habitat at close range. The landscape consists mainly of vast open plains spread with numerous hillocks, hills and plateaus with magnificent stone outcrops.

Guest accommodation comprises double bedroom suites, each with a private bathroom with a bath or a shower. A guest suite with an adjoining room are situated adjacent to the Manor House, making it an ideal family room. Between the Manor House and the Cottage, is a separate suite, adjacent to the swimming pool and the pool bar and games room.

Quaggasfontein is currently home to two of the Big 5 game types that exist wild in Africa, namely the White rhino and the buffalo. Other species to be found include springbok, Red hartebeest, Blue wildebeest, Black wildebeest, eland, letchwe, Mountain zebra and impala. There are also sable, warthog, Mountain reedbuck, Common reedbuck, aardwolf, aardvark, caracal, and ostrich.

On-site activities include daily game drives, game walks, tennis, swimming, darts, table tennis, pool table, croquet, visits to the von Plettenberg beacon site, star-gazing, and visits to the Bushman rock etchings.

Traveller's Joy is situated in Colesberg, halfway on route between Cape Town and Johannesburg, the perfect stop over for the tired tourist, is our grand old, yet modern guesthouse. This house was built in 1840 and restored in 2005. The thick walls, high ceilings and beautiful restored wooden floors, ensure a cool and pleasant atmosphere. Although this house is part of our National heritage, we have changed the inside of the house, that each room is en-suite, has its own separate outside entrance and patio, offering each guest with privacy.

Our rooms are spacious, all with tea and coffee facilities, fridge, air-conditioned, SABC and a DStv channel to choose from, luxuriously furnished with comfortable double and queen-size beds. We also have an ideal family unit consisting of two inter-leading rooms, one with three single beds and the other with a double bed en-suite bathroom. Our executive unit also called the Sun Room is a large spacious room with a queen size and a single bed, mini lounge suite, TV, Fridge, Microwave and air-conditioned. It also has a breakfast nook, limited cutlery and a sink area. We have safe and secure, off the street parking.

We are within walking distance of all the restaurants. Our guests enjoy this early evening stroll after a long and tiresome journey. Our guesthouse is named after a plant, by the name of Traveller's Joy, Clematis Brachiates that grows wild in our area, well known for its healing powers and soothing of tired muscles. This is exactly what we want our guests to experience, to have a pleasant stay and continue their journey well rested.

The cottage consists of two bedrooms, a private bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and an open-plan living area. There is a lovely patio area and the garden is completely fenced off, making it safe for young children and pets.

With all the open space surrounding the farm, guests can enjoy long walks or mountain bike rides. The large stone reservoir at the main house provides a refreshing break in summer time. There are braai facilities available with wood supplied.

Experience a very unique opportunity to feed Springbok, as they come within two metres of the vehicle. It offers a perfect chance to take stunning photographs. Snacks and beverages can be taken along by prior arrangement, while enjoying the sunset at the same time.

The house can accommodate up to ten guests and comprises five bedrooms, two bathrooms, three toilets, and a kitchen, dining and living area. The kitchen is well-equipped and features a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee machine and all other necessities. On arrival there will be freshly baked bread, home-made jams, and coffee or tea. The establishment is self-catering, but meals can be arranged at very reasonable rates.

The rooms are big and modern, fully carpeted, and nicely decorated. There is also a pool table to keep you entertained. The property is fully enclosed and is close to the police-station so it’s quite safe.

This working sheep farm offers typical Karoo experiences and hospitality. Your hosts, Pieter and Tereza van der Merwe, are looking forward to spoiling you on their little piece of heaven.

We offer four thatched stone Rondavels with their own bathrooms and tea and coffee-making facilities. There are three double Rondavels and one family unit. Bedding and towels are provided, and all rooms have satellite TV’s, roof fans, heaters and electric blankets. There is also a separate thatched dining and socializing area where drinks and meals are served.

English breakfasts are served on request. We offer a traditional buffet dinner with lamb, venison pie, bobotiie, roast potatoes, pumpkin fritters and vegetables in season. Or you can have a braai with Karoo lamb chops, sausage, farm-baked bread, home-made jams and salad. There is a communal kitchen available with a microwave and fridge-freezer.

Rondawel Guest Farm is a safe oasis en-route through the Karoo. Come and enjoy our farm's natural splendour, beautiful sunsets and exceptional stargazing. Birdwatching is a great favourite with guests as plenty of bird life abounds in the surrounding trees and fountain dam. Children are encouraged to feed the geese on the dam. If you would like to stretch your legs, we can suggest taking a hike into the calming Karoo landscape. You can cool off in the cement farm dam during the warmer months. Pets are allowed by arrangement.

The graceful farmstead reflects typical Karoo architecture with wooden floors and ceilings. The 14 inch thick walls keep out the heat in summer and the cold in winter.

The Fourie's are the seventh generation on the farm. Rooipoort is the third oldest farm in the district and is a crown farm never bought or sold. Four generations have been living on the farmstead.This is a 4 000 ha working sheep farm with various game species, rock engravings and the most beautiful walking routes. Almond orchards have been established.

There are ample opportunities for bird watching as there are a Black Eagle breeding pair on the farm as well as Blue cranes and various other species. Delight yourself in a large collection of art on display inside as well as outside in the tree-filled garden and the thrill of feeding the
Koi fish. The swimming pool has a stunning view on the almond orchard.

The three star Self-catering accommodation consist of two cottages with basically the same layout, kitchenette with an adjacent room with two single beds and a main sleeping room with a double bed. Satellite TV is also available. The cottages are close to the homestead but private enough. Cottage 1 has a full en-suite bathroom with bath, shower and toilet. Cottage 2 has an en-suite bathroom with a shower and toilet. The units are neat, clean, and spacious.

Everything you should need is inside. We offer safe parking under a net, outside plug for fridges, walking, swimming, tennis, bird watching, braai-facilities and bright star-nights. Come and enjoy the space and silence of a Karoo-farm.

Each unit contains DStv, and Be Blessed offers very nice braai facilities either at the pool, next to your unit, or at a big braai-area in the garden. Because we are fully self-catering we do not offer any meals, however our kitchens are fully equipped; and Richmond offers a variety of small restaurants at walking distance from our guesthouse. Be Blessed is also a pet friendly establishment.

Klein Vrede is a characterful Karoo house located exactly halfway between Cape Town and Johannesburg on the N12. The house has loads of space and is ideal as an overnight stop for a family or group of friends. It sleeps up to six people. The entire house is rented out to one group at a time only.

The house is over 100 years old. It has modern wooden floors, high ceilings and comfortable furniture. There is ample sleeping space, in separate bedrooms. The huge kitchen has a gas stove, fridge-freezer and all cooking and eating utensils. The separate dining room has a table and six chairs, and guests can enjoy a lovely braai outside. There is also a second dining area, a sun-room at the back of the house, with garden furniture. There is a large garden with lots of extra parking space and lock-up garage. The house is equipped with mobile air-conditioner and fans, both free-standing and ceiling.

There is no television, but that makes the breakaway even more complete, the opportunity to rediscover the joys of conversation, peace and quiet.
