Tempt your tastebuds in Tulbagh this March! Venture out into the heart of the Witzenberg Region when it rolls out the welcome mat as visitors arrive in their masses to savour the very best of the towns’ culinary delights. A celebration of Dutch culture and heritage, this colourful festival is set in the charming Cape Winelands town of Tulbagh against the backdrop of historic Church Street, where every single house is a national monument in vernacular Cape Dutch Style.
Traditional Dutch and East Indian cuisine like stroopwafels, drop, poffertjies and mussel pots to are just a few of the delightful dishes that will make you salivate! Take a trip back it time along the architectural routes, visit the farmer’s market for organic vegetables and delectable homemade goodies, or kick off your shoes and relax in the beer garden, complete with live entertainment and a “Dutch Courage” party on the Saturday evening.
Swirl your glass and sample a wide range of wines at the various estates and private cellars as well as numerous activities which will be on offer. Kids will find lots to keep them amused with pony rides, face painting, jumping castles and various other activities on offer. Gather the family for a game of petanque, a picnic on the lawns or cheese, chocolate and olive tastings – there’s something for everyone, it’s all about family fun!
Need to know? Entrance to the festival is R20 and is valid for both festival days. Entry for children 12 years old and younger is free.
