Die Vishuis Restaurant is situated on the bank of the Berg River, in the West Coast town of Velddrif. This restaurant was once a real 'vishuis' where the fisherman used to salt the harders in big tanks. What remains of those days are the sea shells in the original sand walls, portions of which have been uncovered. This quirky little national monument has been kept appealingly genuine, complete with open beams and a long stoep where you can eat seafood as well as other scrumptious dishes and enjoy the flamingos, pelicans and herons because this is a major wetland area. A restaurant called Die Vishuis must of course have a scrumptious fish and seafood menu but this is not all that is served, Herman who has 31 years experience in the hospitality trade has put his wide experience to good use, creating seasonal and interesting West Coast dishes. You will be made welcome as you arrive at the door. After being shown to your table your friendly waiter will help you select your meal from the menu and if needed will call Herman for any further assistance if required. Being a small intimate restaurant we are able to create personal service for your enjoyment and relaxation throughout your meal. Guests are welcome to bring own Wine and Beer along - no corkage charged, as we are not licensed yet.

Everything that Derek ploughs his efforts into seems to be infused with his personal brand of magic, from the deliciously different smoothie selection, through to the furniture he’s chosen to decorate his new restaurant with. Not only is Kitch Kombuis a coffee shop with a difference, everything inside is for sale, not excluding the very table you’re seated at. Taking its inspiration from European coffee stations, the coffee shop is located adjacent to the Muizenberg train station. With a counter full of healthy baked treats and delicious sarmies, Kitch Kombuis is designed as a meeting place, greeting place and ‘grab a bite before leaving on the train’ place. Great emphasis is placed on serving excellent coffee and providing light snacks, baked and made by members of the Muizenberg community. Young bakers and pastry chefs deliver fresh snacks daily, while Derek and his assistant whip up excellent coffee and more-ish smoothies. Enjoy a freshly baked selection of croissants, veg pies, quiches, wraps, gourmet sarmies and sweet pastries from breakfast through to lunch.

This quaint, eccentric restaurant and vintage shop is called Pajamas and Jam, now we know they have a sense of humor. This lightheartedness shines through in everything except the quality of products you will find here. Here you will find interesting variations on traditional breads and salads, as well as salad dressings. The menu changes on a daily basis so a surprise is never too far away. The sweet stuff is simply delectable an include a Portuguese milk tart and scrumptious carrot cake. Do yourself a favour and order the hot chocolate made with Lindt chocolate balls. The double chocolate brownies are also very popular. Italian coffee, Caffé Tomeucci, is made the in-house barista and fresh juice is squeezed every day. Interesting items like buchu and rose geranium cordial, as well as finger-licking preserves are ideal to take home.

Apart from the pleasant service, this is most certainly the best place to experience fresh fish and catch from the harbour straight into the pan. With the limited space available, it amazes one how effortlessly this type of quality of food is presented each time. Come rain or shine, Quayside Cabin is open. Summer days are spent enjoying the sea breeze and in winter the blinds are lowered and heaters strategically positioned for a cosy meal. Seafood is what’s on the menu so don’t head to the harbour if you are looking for a rare steak. Split a platter to taste all the starters, choose one of the hot pots, or pick the best fresh-off-the-boat fish dish. Kiddies have a small selection of meals to cater for the whole family. The mother-daughters combo has all the locals and tourists raving about the warm and friendly service, not to mention the perfectly prepared meals. Customers flock to the outdoor terrace to soak up the sun and dine on excellently prepared dishes. The evening atmosphere is intimate and guests are welcome to bring their own bottle of wine, free of charge. Breakfast is served from 9 am and includes your traditional bacon and eggs or fluffy omelettes. The evening menu is small but every dish is impeccably prepared to ensure their guests enjoy every bit. Expect crispy duck with an orange van der Hum sauce or pork fillet cooked in prunes and sherry. Desserts are a must! This is definitely one dining experience not to be missed and the owners are always around for a quick hello.
