Apprentice Restaurant, formally known as L’Olive, situated on Stellenbosch’s bustling Andringa Street, is a sought after dining establishment. Home to the Culinary Institute, this restaurant offers food that appeals to the senses.
The restaurant is training school for students who have chosen cooking as a career, but patrons would be far off the mark to expect anything less than being plated up food of exceptional quality.
Not only is breakfast, lunch and dinner served in style, the décor of the eatery is bright and inviting in a relaxed upmarket manner, however, the best seats remain out of house on the pavement, where guests can soak up the Stellenbosch vibe.
The dinner menu is offers a selection of meat dishes from Lamb Rump, Kudu Loin to Quail. Desserts are wickedly decadent with impossible to resist choices like Chocolate Marble Pavlova and Tiramisu with Rum and Espresso.
Since the restaurant is a learning arena, the menu also has a glossary of terms (in case the menu is all French to you).

Strand Contemporary restaurant
This beautiful restaurant is situated in the famous Hibernian Towers in Strand. It is an upmarket beach bar, lounge and restaurant that serves up delicious meals at surprisingly reasonable prices.
The interior is stylish and elegant, but still has an element of fun to it. The cocktails served are delicious and diners are spoilt for choice.
The menu is small but well thought out and includes dishes like chicken roulade, chicken stuffed with sundried tomatoes, cashew nuts and feta served with cous cous and honey-glazed veggies. Also a must-try is the sirloin steak and the bacon wrapped pork fillet served with honey and mustard mash, honey glazed veggies and apricot compote.
Light meals like pastas, burgers, wraps and fish and chips can also be enjoyed by those who just want to nibble while watching the sun set over the ocean with a cocktail in hand.
Sedgefield Contemporary restaurant
ChefAlma@Groenvlei Restaurant is situated in beautiful Lake Pleasant Resort just outside Sedgefield in the heart of the Garden Route, South Africa.
The restaurant serves laid-back rustic food with a clean modern twist, and beautifully presented with care. The menu changes periodically and will always include local seasonal produce, own homegrown herbs, vegetables and sprouts. Try some of the decadent desserts and cakes.
The resort is in a natural bird sanctuary on the shores of tranquil Groenvlei, the only freshwater lake on the Garden Route. The lake beachfront, with its sandy beach and lawns, is particularly safe for young children. On the eastern boundary of the resort is the 2000 hectare Goukamma Nature Reserve.
Currently we are serving breakfast from 8:00 to 12:00, lunch from 12:00 to 17:00, and dinner from 17:00 to 21:00. We are closed on Sunday evenings and Mondays.
Graaff-Reinet Contemporary restaurant
Located in the historic and charming town of Graaff Reinet, the Coldstream Restaurant finds itself ideally set in the shade of Norfolk Pine trees. With the beautiful 130 year old Dutch Reform Church as its neighbour, the restaurant exudes a special ambience of a time gone by.

Melkbosstrand Contemporary restaurant
This beautifully renovated building was originally a shed on De Melkbosch farm in the 1700's. The water from a fountain nearby used to form a dam next to the shed, hence the name 'Damhuis' (dam house). Where this dam once lay, the bustling Beach Road is now winding.
This restaurant offers seating inside and outside, but it is outside in the courtyard where you want to be, weather permitting. Beautiful, uninterrupted views of the beach and the vast Atlantic greet you as you start your day with one of the delicious breakfasts.
Try a small, medium or large English breakfast, a delicious omelette, a continental breakfast or even a 'slimmer's' breakfast. The dishes are all freshly prepared with lots of care and attention to detail.
Gorgeous tapas can also be enjoyed with a glass or three of wine on a laxzy sunny afternoon.
The menu is quite extensive and some of the starter dishes are mussels steamed in a white wine sauce served with freshly baked bread, tender tubes of calamari and peri peri chicken livers.
For a main, try one any one of the seafood, chicken or meat dishes. From the catch of the day and paprika prawns to a chicken curry and the 'Cock of all Chicken Pies'.

The restaurant offers an outdoor deck for alfresco dining on sunny days and loads of atmosphere in winter with its cosy fireplace. Hermanus Contemporary restaurant
Fusion, situated on the cliffs of scenic seaside town of Hermanus, presents visitors with the unique opportunity of whale watching while making menu choices. The restaurant is located at an ideal spot for viewing whales, and while this is true, it does not distract from the great food on offer.
The outdoor seating is just meters from the ocean under shaded umbrellas, and in summer this is perfect spot to soak up the sites and sounds of the harbour.
The family owned eatery is open throughout the day. Early birds can enjoy breakfast while holiday makers who have lost their sense of time can be seated for brunch, a lingering lunch or dinner. Menu features are: Fillet Medallions with a Black Pepper Brandy Cream Sauce or the Speciality Burger, which is a beef patty, topped with proscuito ham, brie and fig chutney served on a ciabatta. For the seafood lovers there is fresh Black Mussels steamed in white wine and fresh herbs tossed with lemon and herb crème fraiche served with a home baked garlic loaf.
Fusion is a fully licensed restaurant with an assortment of local wines as well as local and imported beers. The restaurant is wheelchair friendly and has an enclosed smoking section.
Stellenbosch Contemporary restaurant
Another Stellenbosch winery has lured an award winning chef to put its eatery on the culinary map. Chef George Jardine now heads up ‘Jordan Restaurant with George Jardine’ on the Jordan wine Estate. The establishment’s name may be a mouthful which in turn serves as a fairly accurate take on the food too – mouthfuls of deliciousness. Food enthusiasts will not be disappointed with the fine dining experience on offer here.
The restaurant offers set menus to choose from, ensuring orchestrated flavours and textures above all else. Guests can opt for two, three or four courses, all with or without specific wine pairings to compliment the dishes. Although the menu is changeable to in order to really get the best out of seasonal produce, one can expect to be tantalized with The duck liver parfait to start. The mains are exciting, with the likes of Penny Verburg’s Suckling Pig Roasted and a lavish baked pudding with Pimm’s Creme Catalan.
The wine list is not limited to only Jordan’s Wines, but also has a good local selection and a broad spectrum price range. One is permitted to bring one’s own wine (limited to a single bottle) subject to a corkage fee.
The restaurant is open for lunch Wednesdays to Sundays and for dinner Thursdays and Fridays.
