Ocean View and Fynbos

In the heart of the Cape Garden Route, on the edge of the ocean and amidst glorious fynbos, you find this luxurious secluded holiday home. Situated in a private nature reserve within 20 minutes of George Airport, it is the ideal spot to relax, watch the whales, walk the many nature trails or just do nothing.

With breathtaking ocean and mountain views from every room in the house and a haven to relax in peace and tranquility, this spacious, luxuriously furnished house has four double bedrooms of which two are en-suite with separate baths and showers. The fourth bedroom also has a bunk bed for children. In the main bedroom en-suite bathroom, the bath overlooks the ocean and you can watch the whales while you soak.

All bedrooms are equipped with built-in cupboards and high-quality bed and bathroom linen. There is a third bathroom with a shower. The kitchen is fully equipped with quality utensils and all facilities, including a combo washing machine and dryer. There is a gas fireplace for those cold winter months.

The open-plan entertainment and kitchen area invites light and views while you lie and read on the corner couch, dine outside on the patio or, dare we say it, watch the weekend DStv sport on the flat-screen television. The extendable dining and patio tables can accommodate all those drop-in dinner guests. There is no telephone but good cellphone and 3G reception.

You would need a vehicle to get to the house and allow you to move around in the area. The drive from the airport takes you along the highway and onto a strip-paved road into the reserve.Driving within the 20 km speed limit will secure your safe arrival.

Being a sensitive environment and timber house, there are unfortunately also some rules. These include no pets or animals, no loud music or noise, no open fires or unprotected flames - use brickettes to braai in the Weber - no picking of flowers or removing of plants.

Being a protected nature reserve, there is always something exquisite to see, from rare fynbos species to shy Knysna loerie and bushbuck or busy insects, all part of our unique and protected ecosystem. A 10-minute walk away you will find zebra, bontebok and other game roaming freely in the reserve, while down in the valley you may find some monkeys.

The reserve has its own private beach, but there are numerous swimming ponds in the cliffs in front of the house. There are numerous excellent fishing spots. A short drive away is the glorious Victoria Bay with its clean beach and famous surfer waves.

Originally built in the 1940's at the famous watering hole along the Lourenco Marques (Maputo) route, this gracious old hotel was purchased and then restored to its former colonial grandeur. The new accommodation facilities are themed to highlight Zululand's own cultural development.

Guests can take a time out between their African adventures to relax next to the sparkling pool or in one of the bars or entertainment areas. Sundowners are a fine part of old colonial tradition that really should be observed. The Zulu Nyala Heritage Hotel also has a small library, as well as a beautifully stocked curio shop for your browsing pleasure. The outdoor boma can seat 180 people and an alfresco dining area is available as well as a TV and games lounge. Be sure to keep an eye out for the impala, nyala, warthog, zebra, blesbok and Zulu nguni cattle that roam freely on the property.

This lovely hotel also offers a conference room for 80 people and is perfect spot for team building. For those planning a wedding, the hotel is the ideal unique wedding venue.

Adjacent to the hotel is the fascinating Zulu Cultural Village, where the residents still live and practice Zulu traditions as their ancestors did a hundred years ago. A visit will expose you to traditional Zulu beer and spear making; sangomas who can read your future in the bones they throw; the Zulu stick fighting; bead and basket making and the high-kicking, rhythmic Zulu dancing.

The estate adjoins the Zulu Nyala Private Game Reserve, with all of the reserve activities such as game drives and walks available to Heritage guests. The reserve is home to abundant plains game including the shy and beautiful nyala, giraffe, zebra, blue wildebeest, impala and many more as well as elephant, white rhino, buffalo, leopard, cheetah, hippo and a wealth of bird life. Game drives are conducted in open 4×4 vehicles, by FGASA qualified and experienced game rangers. Early morning and late afternoon game drives are both offered, each allowing a unique viewing experience as different animals are more easily seen at different times of the day.

Zulu Nyala Heritage Hotel is ideally situated for access to many 'heritage' and conservation sites in the region, which guests may explore privately. Sites include the greater St Lucia Estuary, Hluhluwe, Umfolozi and Mkuzi Game Reserves, Sodwana Bay and various Zulu cultural villages.

Visit Zulu Nyala Heritage Hotel for a cultural experience like no other.

Please note that no children under the age of five years old are allowed on game drives. There are no self-drives allowed.
