Description
Share the true spirit of the festive season in Sea Point this December. Apart from joining the merry carnival, you can help the Sea Point City Improvement District collect toys for the children at Somerset Hospital.
As Sea Point swings into the festive season a major focus of the Sea Point City Improvement District’s (CID) annual “Summer on Main” promotion is a toy collection drive for the children at Somerset Hospital.
Says Heather Tager, of the Sea Point CID, “Giving to a child who has to spend the festive season in hospital is in the spirit of the season. Whilst these children may be away from their families the knowledge that someone cares is very precious. New or used toys are welcome and we encourage you make a child’s day!”
And what's more, children can do it for children too - local schools are invited to have toy collections before they close and all toys donated by the public and local retailers will be taken to the hospital just before Christmas. Show that you care this season by dropping off a toy at any of the collection points - all toys are welcome.
It’s the season of giving and knowing that your toy will find a special owner is part of the holiday joy.
Join the merry throng of festive light and cheer flooding Sea Point. The Christmas festivities continue on Saturday 6 December at 7pm with the big “switch on” of the Christmas Lights along Sea Point Main Road.
The Summer on Main Carnival Parade brings all aspects of local entertainment together to herald the real start of the summer season - a celebration that encompasses the spirit of Sea Point. From Father Christmas to drummies, favourite characters to grand motor bikes and vintage cars – they’ll all be wending their way down Main Road ready to flood Sea Point with festive light.
Be up and out on the sidewalk at 7pm to watch the parade meander its way to the Piazza da Luz at Spar and join in the fun.
Toy collection points: SPAR, Sea Point CID Office, (next to the Fire Station) Clicks Glengariff and Life Church on Main Road.
