Beach Bush House is a stylish double storeyed family house situated on Beach Road Scarborough. The only gap in the rare Milkwood trees, which run the length of Beach Road, is directly opposite the house.

This affords a wonderful view of the mighty Atlantic Ocean. There is immediate access to two white sandy beaches, rocks covered in mussels and many rock pools for the kids to enjoy.

This little village is a wonderful base from which to explore this tip of the Cape and close by are the Cape Nature Reserve and the splendid shops and restaurants of False Bay.

Scarborough, which lies just beyond Kommetjie, is one of the few suburbs of Cape Town that remains far from the madding crowds, despite its proximity to the city.

Light House is situated two roads away from the beautiful Scarborough beach and is a stone's throw away from some great hiking trails up the mountain. The beach is beautiful and very child friendly. It is also a great spot for surfing. The house has three double bedrooms; the main bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and the other two bedrooms share a large family bathroom with a shower and bath.

The house has a spacious, open-plan living room and dining room leading onto the fully equipped kitchen; our dining room has an eight-seater dining table which leads out onto a large covered patio with table. The house also has a laundry room with a washing machine and tumble-dryer. We have our own private garden with a large heated pool.

Scarborough is a conservation village and essentially a random scattering of houses and beach houses that lie embedded in the steep mountains of Slangkop and Red Hill, overlooking the thundering Atlantic waves. It is a nature lover’s haven, seems miles from traffic jams and makes the crime of suburban living seem irrelevant. Scarborough lies adjacent to the Cape Point Nature Reserve.

There are a couple of restaurants and a small shop, but Simons Town, Noordhoek and Fish Hoek are easily accessible.

Akhaya lentaba Mountain home was designed by well-known architect Heidi Zollner and is a beautiful home ideally suited to its surroundings. From its commanding position, sweeping curved windows and glass sliding doors celebrate the spectacular scenery. The house enjoys panoramic, uninterrupted views of the pristine sandy bay and the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean. To the South, views of the Rocky Mountains are equally impressive and a garden door opens onto the beautiful Baskloof Nature Reserve at the back. At night, huge star spangled skies greet you, as there are no street lights in Scarborough.

Organic design and expansive, flowing spaces give this modern house an airy and light character. Architectural detail, stained wooden floors, Tasmanian oak parquet, camphor and cedar furniture and touches of African decor enhance the natural character of this unique home.

Spacious open-plan dining and living areas lead onto broad sea-facing verandas, from which one can enjoy the stunning sunsets whilst sipping a chilled drink. All in all, a perfect setting for a relaxing indoor/outdoor lifestyle. The large upstairs kitchen has modern appliances, and gives full views up onto the mountainside.

Additional futons in the lounge can provide sleeping accommodation for further two to three people. The house can be rented as a whole or as two separate units. It has two separate entrances, each level therefore offering a complete fully equipped private unit, each with two bedrooms and a bathroom. Luxurious percale bed linen and down duvets add to your comfort. An open log fireplace on the upper floor is cosy on those chilly evenings where a good Merlot will not go amiss.

To the front, a terraced fynbos indigenous garden leads down to a car-port and off-street parking for further three cars. Scarborough is the 'Monterey' of the Cape Peninsula, a highly desirable conservation village in a spectacular setting. The safest suburb of Cape Town, most houses are unfenced and there is a very friendly atmosphere. Surrounded by extensive nature reserves, with a beautiful quiet beach, this area attracts a friendly community of local and international nature lovers and discerning holiday-makers. It is well located for Simons Town, Kalk Bay, Cape Point and other Peninsula attractions, including baboon, penguin and whale watching. The village is quiet, yet the restaurants, cafes and shops are just a few minutes’ drive into Kommetjie and neighbouring villages. It is less than an hour into Cape Town city centre or the wine-lands, via beautiful roads. It boasts its own vineyard, just around the corner as you head out for a scenic drive to the Cape Point. Watch out for whales.

There are numerous good restaurants and golf courses on the Peninsula, and a large modern shopping mall is only 15 minutes away.

Scarborough South Africa

Scarborough Self-catering Accommodation

The easygoing village of Scarborough lies on the northern side of Cape Point Nature Reserve in the Table Mountain National Park. Just 11 km from Kommetjie, it is one of few far-flung suburbs of Cape Town where you can escape from the city and crowds.

Scarborough proudly asserts itself as a ‘conservation village’ although it’s pretty much an assortment of large modern houses and rustic beach homes spilling down mountain slopes to the beach and rocky coastline.

This nature-lover’s and botanists haven is surrounded by a rich selection of coastal fynbos and offers some lovely walks along the coastal and mountain trails. The sunsets are awesome.

Surfing, body boarding, kite surfing, kayaking and windsurfing conditions are excellent. Some of the best spots on the Peninsula for fishing and diving for crayfish can be found along this shore.

There are two restaurants within the village, the Camel Rock and the Hub Café and Greenshop, but it’s not far from Kommetjie, Inhoff’s Gift, Noordhoek, Simon’s Town and Fish Hoek. The pretty Cape Farmhouse Restaurant and a few lovely gift shops are just 3km towards Cape Point.
