Prince Albert is 400 km from Cape Town and 200 km from the nearest airport in George. Nestling against the Swartberg Mountains, it grew from a farm called Kweekvallei which was established in 1762 on the banks of a river whose source is from the sparkling springs in the Swartberg Mountains. The life-giving water was used to good effect to create an oasis in the otherwise dry Great Karoo. It still runs through the streets in bubbling furrows, nurturing fragrant gardens and adding a gentle murmur to the tranquil streets.
