Description
Feel the earth beat at this big fat art party in Potchefstroom
Grab your mates and get to the Aardklop Arts Festival in springtime for a five day feast of Afrikaans culture and a big fat jol. This popular festival attracts around 170,000 visitors with main sponsors such as ABSA, Media24, Ofm, Anglogold Ashanti and others. Over 90 productions are on offer ranging from classical music, jazz, hard rock, cabaret, visual arts, theatre, circus performances, opera, African and World music, poetry and lots more. The highlight is the OppiAarde Rock Festival on the final day. The word aardklop is Afrikaans for "earth beat" and although this festival primarily focuses on Afrikaans arts and culture, it is committed to a universal appeal - just as Afrikaans forms part of a wider community.
Ideally located close to both Gauteng and the Free State, Aardklop has over the past 11 years grown from a regional festival focussing on the promotion of the performing arts in Afrikaans to a truly national festival, showcasing the talent from an array of local and international artists – including the performing arts, the visual arts and crafts. While the festival still has a strong Afrikaans focus, English – and even Tswana – productions have become important fixtures on the festival’s programme. It's mantra is passion, discipline, daring, integrity and quality. Be there!
