Description
So your name is not Sabrina? You don't like to be challenged? You don't love the ocean? No excuses. Land lubbers can enter 10km runs and 5km walks. And surely you have a heart for children with disabilities? (Not just because it's Christmas.) Pack your gear. You have nothing to fear. Swim or paddle in the sea, run or walk on the beach - whatever level you want to compete at it is a good cause and loads of fun!
Now in its eigth year, the Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge has established itself as a "must do" event on the ocean swimming and surf ski calendars respectively. Last year the event attracted 1 000 participants in spite of very grumpy weather.
What are the disciplines and the distances?
All races start in the morning from 8.00am on 28th of December.
Ocean Swim: +/- 6 km (wetsuits are allowed!)
The swim starts at Robberg Rocks and finishes at Central Beach. All
swimmers will be transported to the start venue in the morning.
Swimmers will be accompanied by the NSRI and safety paddlers with Shark
Shield Equipment.
For all young children who want to swim, there will be a separate ‘children swim’ of 600 meters, starting and finishing at Main Beach.
Ocean paddle: 15 km (reduced by 5 km from last year's paddle). The early Portuguese didn’t call this bay
Baia Formosa (the
beautiful bay) for nothing. Paddling 15 km parallel to the coastline
will reward you with marvellous backdrops of the Outeniqua and
Tsitsikamma mountains. Start and finish at Central Beach.
Run: 10 km Run through Plettenberg Bay’s scenic town starting and finishing at Central Beach.
Beach Fun Walk: +/-3 km (no times taken!)
The Beach Fun Walk is for all those who want to join the spirit of the race but without the competitive element.
Need to know? The event takes place on 28 December 2009 in Plettenberg Bay and is organized by Magnetic South. 100% of entry fees go towards the Sabrina Love Foundation.
